Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott Walks Out to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’ Following Democratic Primary Win
Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s highly publicized feud has trickled over to pop culture and politics. Last week, President Joe Biden used the music in the feud for his campaign against Donald Trump. Now, Baltimore mayor Brandon Scott is the next to follow suit after playing Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” as his walk-out song after defeating the city’s former mayor, Sheila Dixon, this past Tuesday night (May 14).

Following his win in Baltimore’s Democratic mayoral primary for a second term, Scott delivered a rousing victory speech at Rye Street Market Building in Baltimore Peninsula with the chorus of “Not Like Us” blaring through the speakers.
“There might be some votes left to be counted, but I think it’s safe to say that we’re destined for a second term,” Scott said during his victory speech. “And Baltimore, tonight you said very clearly that your democracy is not for sale no matter how rich they are. You have confirmed once again that the naysayers who underestimate our city will never, ever understand what truly makes Baltimore great. We overcame the odds, including a Trump-loving Republican super PAC that spending hundreds of thousands of dollars telling lies about our city, ignoring the progress that we have talked about, and we still won.”
With a tenure that ended in an embezzlement conviction, Dixon faced an insurmountable obstacle earlier this week, trailing by 5,000 votes against Scott. She conceded the race to the incumbend on Friday, CBS News reported. Scott is favored to win in the general election in November.
As for the Scott’s soundtrack choice, last week, Biden used “Euphoria” in a social media post to thrash Trump, fueling the battle’s importance in pop culture.
This week, “Not Like Us” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Lamar’s fourth overall chart-topper. “Euphoria” enjoyed a considerable leap, jumping to No. 3.
