Social Media Reacts to New York Liberty Mascot Ellie the Elephant’s Renaissance-Inspired Performance
While many people go to sports games to enjoy the players competing for a winning title, some attend these events to see the energetic mascots. But one team’s mascot stands out amongst the rest and has gained a fanbase of its own. Unveiled in June 2023, The New York Liberty’s Ellie the Elephant has become a beloved symbol of the WNBA team, bringing in a fresh wave of excitement to the organization.

The creation of Ellie came about after the team agreed to revitalize its brand and deepen the connection with fans. Designed to be playful and enthusiastic, Ellie graces the games wearing a jersey with the number “97” to highlight the year the Liberty franchise was established. Ellie stands over seven feet tall with bright, teal-colored skin and a welcoming smile. However, Ellie isn’t just a pretty face, she also serves as the team’s ambassador and embodies the Liberty’s theme of empowerment and community.

Speaking of her personality, Ellie recently gave an outstanding halftime performance to celebrate Pride Month and extend a tribute to Beyoncé. During the show, Ellie performed choreography to a melody from Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” album. Using her own dancers, Ellie stepped out on the court in a silver outfit to mimic the theme of the album and had songs like “Formation,” “Move Ya Body,” and “Move” playing in the background.
Of course, the video clip of the performance made its way to social media, with users hyping up the mascot, who gave us her best moves. See what users had to say below:

Not for nothing I might have Ellie the Elephant at my wedding. I now fully understand the people who have their team mascot at private events. She’s so much fun and really brings up the atmosphere and vibe. She’s that gworl!
