NC State stands out to priority ’26 QB Jayvon Gilmore
Jayvon Gilmore visited NC State twice over the past few months. The three-star class of 2026 quarterback from Gaffney (S.C.) High stopped by Raleigh for a practice and the spring game—two trips that piqued his interest in the Pack.
After transferring to his new school this semester, the 6-6 signal-caller started to pile up Power Five scholarships. In addition to his NC State offer, which the staff tendered Feb. 20, Arkansas, Texas A&M and UCF have all ramped up their interest as well.
He previously told TheWolfpacker.com that his next trip to Raleigh would be for one of the program’s first two home games. Those plans changed recently.
The rising junior will now stop by NC State June 7 for a camp and an unofficial visit, giving him another chance to spend time with quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper and head coach Dave Doeren.
“I just want to be back in the environment and also get around coach Roper and coach Doeren,” Gilmore said.
Gilmore plans on going through a workout with Roper to see how the Pack assistant teaches and how he could help the quarterback develop. The sophomore just wrapped up spring practice at Gaffney. He put in a lot of work to improve his passing on the run, and that showed up during a recent scrimmage.

Roper and offensive line coach Garett Tujague visited the nation’s No. 30 quarterback at his school earlier this month. The Wolfpack assistants emphasized that Gilmore is a top priority for the program’s 2026 class.
“They just reassured me that they want me there and they love me,” Gilmore said.
He felt that same enthusiasm during his previous trips to Raleigh. NC State kept the offense vanilla during the spring game, but he can still see himself fitting into the system. Watching standout freshman quarterback CJ Bailey resonated with the priority Pack recruit.
“CJ Bailey really opened up my eyes a little bit,” Gilmore said. “It’s a spread offense. They’re able to run it and also throw it 50/50, so I love that.”
NC State, Texas A&M and Duke are starting to stand out in his recruitment. He is still in the early stages of his decision-making process but said how a school treats him and his mother will help separate one school from the rest.
The Wolfpack impressed in that area during his initial visits. Gilmore also appreciated how the staff interacted with the players. He met class of 2025 quarterback commit Will Wilson during his spring game visit, and the fellow South Carolina signal-caller shared some insight into why he picked NC State.
“He told me, when he first went, it was just a loving community, and also coach Doeren made it really, really easy for him to go there,” Gilmore said.
Gilmore is not going to rush into a commitment, but he does plan on making a decision between December and January following his junior season. Going into summer visits, NC State remains in a good spot with the emerging sophomore star.
“NC State is very strong with me right now,” Gilmore said. “I really love the campus and who they are as people.”
