New York Liberty return home to face Dallas Wings after Olympic break

More than a month after their last game at Barclays Center, the Liberty are back home Tuesday vs. the Dallas Wings, one of the WNBA’s worst teams. Ok, yes, we are in the playoffs. While that is an amazing feat to accomplish so early in the season, the victory in itself might have been even sweeter for the red hot New York Liberty. It was much more than a victory against the defending champions Las Vegas Aces. It was also a wake up call to the rest of the WNBA stating, “Hey! We are here now!”
Following the win, the momentum will not pause for the Liberty. They will play their first home game following the Olympic break against the Dallas Wings Tuesday.
Where To Follow The Game
Catch the game on FOX5 and the Liberty Live app at 7:00 p.m. ET
Injuries
Betnijah Laney-Hamilton will once again miss the action following her knee procedure. And the Libs announced Tuesday morning that Sabrina Ionescu is questionable with a neck injury.
The Game
Liberty fans have to hope that tonight’s game will be a re-run of their 35-point victory on Thursday vs. the L.A. Sparks. The Wings currently sit with a 6-20 record, only a half game better than the Sparks. Tuesday’s contest will be first of a two-game series with the Wings. They’ll play again on Thursday also at Barclays, then in Dallas on September 10 and 12 to round out the season series.
Player to Watch
One of their only glimpses of hope comes from their superstar/leader Arike Ogunbowale. Despite not having the most efficient numbers — 22 PPG on 36% from the field and 34% from three point range, Ogunbowale moves differently than your usual player. Her ball handling is Darian Garland-esque, which allows her to get her shot off whenever she wants.
It will be interesting to see who will take the challenge of guarding Ogunbowale. With Laney-Hamilton out, I’m guessing Kayla Thorton will take the challenge of matching up with Ogunbowale throughout the game. Aside from being a great shooter, Thorton is versatile with the availability to move her feet well, hence her ability to deal with the different tricks Ogunbowale might throw her way.
