Maine Man Accused Of Drugged Driving On New Hampshire Seacoast: NHSP
NORTH HAMPTON, NH — A man from Maine was arrested on drugged driving and other charges after being accused of driving more than 120 mph on Route 101 and engaging in a chase with state troopers on Tuesday, according to New Hampshire State Police.Just before 9:30 p.m., state troopers received information from Epping police that a suspect had fled from them in a 2005 Honda Accord at very high rates of speed. A short time later, a trooper spotted the silver sedan and clocked it at 120 mph near Exit 10 in Exeter, Tyler Dumont, the public information officer for state police, said. The trooper tried to stop the car, but the driver kept driving east on Route 101, he said. The car then took Exit 12 but then got back on the highway and drove toward Hampton, a report said. “Approximately three minutes after the initial pursuit began, additional troopers were able to deploy tire deflation devices along Route 101 eastbound in the vicinity of the junction with Interstate 95, successfully deflating two tires on the fleeing Honda,” Dumont said. “Despite the Honda having two deflated tires, the pursuit continued through the Hampton Side Toll Plaza and onto I-95 north in North Hampton, where the Honda eventually stopped.” Troopers then arrested the driver, Bert E. Clement, 28, of South Portland, ME, on two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of drugs, reckless conduct-deadly weapon, driving under the influence of drugs, reckless operation, and disobeying an officer charges. Epping police also filed a charge against Clement based on the initial pursuit. Clement was processed, released on personal recognizance, and released to a responsible party. He is due to be arraigned in Brentwood District Court on June 4.All aspects of the incident remain under investigation by Trooper Brian Hanna.
