Family Fight Turns Into Shooting In Middletown: Police

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A family squabble over the weekend turned into a shooting, Middletown Police said. Police released details of the incident Tuesday. According to an incident report, at ablut 10:29 p.m. Sunday, Middletown officers were dispatched to 17 Elm Street for the report of a fight between relatives. While en route, dispatch advised officers that one person had been shot, according top an incident report.On arrival, officers located 46-year-old Jerry Sweeney laying in the road in front of 17 Elm Street with a gunshot wound to his stomach, according to an incident report. Officers began providing medical aid and requested an ambulance and Sweeney was transported to Hartford Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition, according to an incident report.Sweeney had been arguing with 43-year-old Arnie Clark of 17 Elm Street and Clark told police that Sweeney was shot in self-defense, according to an incident report. Clark told officers that Sweeney struck him with a hatchet during their altercation, which led to the shooting incident, according to an incident report.The case is actively being investigated by the Middletown Police Department’s Major Investigations Unit, police said.
