Top plays from the Florida Gators 2023-24 season: No. 2
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators basketball team has officially started offseason workouts this summer. Before we turn the page to next season, let’s look back on the top 10 plays of the 2023-24 campaign, with No. 2 up next.
Top plays: No. 2
Over 24 minutes and another half still remained in the game, but Voice of the Gators Sean Kelley had seen enough. With 4:20 left to play in the first period, Kelley’s mind was made up.
“Yo!” Kelley said. “That is the Florida Dairy Farmers Dunk of the Game.”
How about the dunk of the season? It belongs to Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr., who was lethal from downtown last year but showed he had some hops on this play.
He received the outlet pass, did a crossover dribble at the 3-point line to free himself up and then jumped out the gym. Clayton put LSU’s Tyrell Ward on a poster with this tomahawk dunk.

The significance
Clayton’s dunk helped UF built a double-digit lead before halftime. LSU rallied from a 20-point second-half deficit and tied the game with 1:33 left, but Clayton delivered.
A steal by Zyon Pullin led to a Clayton layup with 20 seconds to play and an 82-80 win for Florida. Clayton scored a team-high 21 points on 9-for-15 shooting.
“I just saw the ball pop out, saw him get on the floor, make a good advance pass to Tyrese [Samuel],” UF coach Todd Golden said of Pullin’s steal. “I thought Tyrese was going to take it, but he dishes to Walt, and made a really tough contested layup that could have been an and-one, probably, and just a winning play down the stretch by a winning player.”
Quotable
Walter Clayton Jr. on whether the LSU dunk was his best:
“No, I had some better ones in high school. But I’m trying to get my body back right and hopefully I can get a couple more this year,” Clayton said. “I think they played tight defense and they would press up a little bit and the ball handler could get past. Usually they help a lot but tonight they wasn’t helping as much. They were probably worried about our 3s going in.”
