Fast-rising 2025 WR Carl Jenkins talks his recent Miami offer: “It was very surprising”
Although summer official visits are nearly upon us, a new name has emerged on the Miami Hurricanes recruiting board in the 2025 class, and that is St. Augustine (Fla.) High wide receiver Carl Jenkins Jr.
Earlier this month, Miami wide receivers coach Kevin Beard offered the 6-foot-3, 165-pound wide receiver, who was a bit shocked when he learned of the offer from the Hurricanes.
“It was very surprising,” Jenkins told CaneSport. “I expected it to come someday, but it was getting late in my recruitment process, so I didn’t know when it was going to come. I feel really good about the offer. I’m going to try to get down there this summer, although it’s not official yet.”
While Miami came in late to his recruitment, Jenkins, who has summer official visits set for UCF on June 1, Louisville on June 8, Illinois on June 15, and USF on June 22, isn’t closing the door on the Hurricanes just yet.
“That’s something I can probably answer in the next month,” Jenkins said when asked if the Hurricanes were out of the picture in his recruitment. “I’m going into my four OVs this summer, so only the Lord knows what they’re going to do about getting me down, and I might get there, and anything can change.”
When looking at a school, Jenkins explained how his relationship with a program’s wide receivers coach is the most important factor to him. During his junior season, Jenkins hauled in 62 receptions for 1,273 yards and 16 touchdowns.
“My position coach, because that’s who I’m going to be with and coached by the most,” Jenkins said. “Just my relationship with my position coach and what he has to say. I’m really looking forward to seeing what he has to say. Really going off being wanted and not needed. I just want to go somewhere where I feel at home and safe with my receivers coach.”
Early on, Jenkins says Beard left a great first impression and explained to him Miami’s plans for their wide receiver recruits in the 2025 class.
“He was just telling me how he couldn’t believe I didn’t have an offer from them,” Jenkins said. “He broke that down and told me about his recruitment and where they are at with receivers right now, and I told him about my recruitment and where I’m at with schools right now.”
Jenkins says if communication between the sides continues throughout the coming weeks, the Hurricanes could potentially position themselves to have a real shot at landing him.
“Just communicate and keep it real with me,” Jenkins explained when asked what he wants to see from Miami moving forward. “Being forward with me and telling me that they want to get me down and how the future would look with me. Not just saying how they want me, but going into detail and keeping it real with me.”
CaneSport’s take
This spring, Jenkins has seen his recruitment amp up rapidly, with programs such as Illinois, Duke, Toledo, Maryland, and Iowa jumping into the mix. Although Jenkins is currently unranked, that has not stopped Miami from letting him know that he is wanted in Coral Gables, so it will be interesting to see how things unfold following his June official visits.
