Metered Parking Comes To A Quaint Long Island Village
BABYLON, NY — Metered parking is taking effect in August in a quaint village on Long Island's South Shore. The village of Babylon is reminding drivers that metered parking behind 72 East Main St. will go into effect on Monday, Aug 4, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., including holidays. The metered rate is 25 cents an hour. In a statement, village officials said the rate is the "cheapest metered parking anywhere in New York State."In addition, there will always be a six-hour parking limit in the lot, including when the meter is not in effect. Officials said drivers have two options to pay for the meters, which include paying at one of the multi-space machines and by downloading the Passport Parking app or visiting ppprk.com. Machines accept quarters and credit or debit cards (no American Express). There are three machines located in the parking lot. Drivers need to keep the receipt and do not have to display it on their car. Those who use the app need to enter the Village of Babylon's zone number, 9340, and there is a 10-cent convenience fee charged by the app for each transaction. However, officials said using the mobile wallet feature covers the fee.
