3 things I know, 3 things I think I know
It’s Friday so that means another round of ‘3 Things I Know, 3 Things I Think I Know’.
It’s simply what the title says – ‘3 Things I Know, 3 Things I Think I Know’. Today we look at several 2025 targets for Mississippi State football and basketball along with team news:
3 Things I Know
I know that Mississippi State is trending well with 2025 receiver prospect Davian Jackson of Westgate (La.) High School. Jackson collected a Mississippi State offer several months ago and also has other Power 5 offers from Ole Miss, Miami, Arkansas and Houston among others. Jackson unofficially visited State in March and has mentioned often that his relationship with State receivers coach Chad Bumphis is a key factor.
Jackson will officially visit Mississippi State on June 21-23 and he also has plans to officially visit Arkansas, Miami and Louisiana Tech in June. Jackson told me recently that Mississippi State is the top school sticking out thus far, as well. With his decision timeframe, Jackson hopes to make his college decision either late in the summer period or right after his senior season begins at Westgate High School.
I know that Mississippi State remains squarely in the mix with 2025 defensive back and On3 composite four-star prospect Cortez Thomas. While Thomas has remained neutral on listing favorites so far, he has taken in multiple trips to Mississippi State this year and is steadily building good bonds with the Bulldogs’ new staff.
Thomas will also officially visit Mississippi State on the weekend of June 21-23 and he also has June official visits set for Kentucky, Texas A&M and Ole Miss. Thomas wants to make his decision before his senior season kicks off at Holmes County Central High School. So how his summer official visits play out could be a big determining factor with his college choice.
I know that Mississippi State is showing more interest lately in 2025 power forward and On3 three-star prospect Jamarion Davis-Fleming. The Canton High School standout holds SEC offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss and LSU, and is off to a solid start on the summer circuit. Davis-Fleming has been on the Bulldogs’ radar for a couple of years now but things have picked up more consistently this spring.
Davis-Fleming has taken in several visits to Mississippi State over the past year and his older brother – Javian Davis – played for the Bulldogs for two seasons in the Ben Howland era in Starkville. Davis-Fleming has talked of taking a few official visits this fall with the possibility of making his college decision before his senior season begins. LSU is also a serious factor for Davis-Fleming and the Tigers will likely get an official visit from Davis-Fleming along with State and Ole Miss.

3 Things I Think I Know
I think I know that Mississippi State’s 2024-25 basketball roster is all but set. You can’t rule out a late addition to the roster but with each passing week, the Bulldogs get closer and closer to finalizing the roster. Of course, summer workouts also get underway next week for the Bulldogs and several transfers and other newcomers will be moving to town this weekend.
This offseason the Bulldogs have added transfers in Riley Kugel (Florida), Claudell Harris (Boston College), Kanye Clary (Penn State), Michael Nwoko (Miami), RJ Melendez (Georgia) and Jeremy Foumena (Rhode Island). The Bulldogs also have a pair of Class of 2024 additions enrolling this summer with point guard Dellquan Warren and forward Eric Paymon. Overall, it was a successful transfer portal season for head coach Chris Jans and now preparations for the season will get started.
I think I know that Mississippi State remains in good position with 2025 defensive back prospect Jeremiah Alvis of Helena (Ala.) High School. Alvis holds several SEC and Power 5 offers, and he took in multiple unofficial visits to Mississippi State this spring, including Super Bulldog Weekend.
Alvis has discussed his relationship with safeties coach Matt Barnes and has talked well of his bond with Barnes. Currently, Alvis is looking to start planning a few summer official visits and Mississippi State, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Missouri are possibilities. Alvis also collected a recent offer from West Virginia and could also visit West Virginia in the near future. Of late, Alvis has maintained his decision timeframe for later this summer.
And lastly today, I think I know that Mississippi State remains in good position with 2025 linebacker prospect Lakendrick James of Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He holds several Division 1 offers so far and that includes SEC offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss. The Magnolia State native did not experience any spring unofficial visits and plans to visit State and Ole Miss this summer.
James was a heavy Mississippi State lean during his prep career and those thoughts have not changed, even with a new Bulldog staff on campus now. He is also on schedule to be a December graduate and he has not given a decision timeframe yet. The Bulldogs currently have two linebacker commits in the Class of 2025 with AJ Rice and Tyshun Willis.
