British millionaire killed in head-on crash in Spain in front of his daughter

A British motorcyclist who died after slamming head-on in a van in Spain yesterday had been identified as London-based millionaire Paul Gerard Tustain.
The 62-year-old was riding along the NA-1110 – a road that runs parallel to the A-12 motorway – when his bike collided directly with the front of a white van.
His daughter was riding behind him when the crash happened, as the two are understood to had been doing a tour in Spain.
She watched her father’s bike crashing into the van before being hurled across the tarmac.

A police spokesperson said: ‘The dead man’s daughter saw he had strayed onto the wrong side of the road and tried to alert him with hand signals but it was too late.
‘He smashed head-on into a van that could not do anything to avoid the collision.

‘A post mortem will show whether he might have suffered a health problem that could have caused him to go onto the wrong side of the road.
‘Otherwise it is likely to have been a fatal distraction. The force of the impact was brutal.’
The impact was so violent it crushed the front of the vehicle, leaving debris strewn along the roadside, about 35 minutes from Pamplona, famous for the running of the bulls.
Paul and his daughter were heading for the town of Logrono when the crash occurred.
Tributes have been paid to Paul, who was the founder and chair of Bullion Vault, the world’s largest online bullion investment service.

A BullionVault employee said today: ‘We are in shock at Paul’s very sudden death.
‘We will be releasing a statement in due course but at the moment we are still grieving. Our thoughts are very much with Paul’s family.’
In 2016, after gold worth more than $1.3 billion – equivalent to about 11% of the Treasury’s reserves at the time.
Paul was also the owner of WhiskyInvestDirect.com, which organised bulk crowdfunding of in-barrel Scotch whisky maturation.
Before venturing into the finance and investment sector, he founded SAM Systems which specialised in mid and back office functions of the banking and stockbroking sectors.
The entrepreneur and his three siblings were raised in Hartford, a village near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
His mother was a housewife and his father had a stockbroking firm that went bust after the mid-1970s market crash.
The first details of the tragedy emerged last night, but it was only earlier this morning that Paul was identified as the victim.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash after getting a call at around 1.40pm.
Ambulances, firefighters and even a medical helicopter were deployed – but there was nothing they could do to save the motorcyclist.
A spokesperson for local firefighters said: ‘We were called this afternoon about a front-on collision between a motorbike and a van on the NA-1110.
‘The man on the motorbike died and the occupants of the van were unharmed.’
