SandboxAQ’s CardiAQ has the potential to vastly improve diagnostic accuracy and timeliness in cardiac healthcare using AI
Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer across most of the world. For doctors, having the most accurate and timely information about a patient’s cardiac state is critical for making life-saving treatment decisions. The standard diagnostic tool used to detect cardiac issues is the electrocardiogram (EKG), which has been around for over 150 years and can sometimes miss specific cardiac conditions. By combining high-performance sensors and sophisticated AI, SandboxAQ has created CardiAQ, a device that detects magnetic fields of the heart through a process called magnetocardiography. The CardiAQ device is more accurate than an EKG and does not require room shielding, significantly expanding its use cases from the ER to bedside and ambulatory care. While studies are still ongoing, the AI-powered CardiAQ has the potential to vastly improve diagnostic accuracy and timeliness in cardiac healthcare, ultimately saving lives and reducing the economic burden of medical care.

The Mayo Clinic is using AI to increase the speed, accuracy, and accessibility of early detection methods for dementia and other cognitive issues
Mayo Clinic scientists are using AI to analyze electroencephalogram (EEG) tests more quickly and precisely, enabling neurologists to find early signs of dementia among data that typically go unexamined. New research by the Mayo Clinic demonstrates how AI can speed up analysis, significantly increase accuracy, and alert experts reviewing EEG test results to abnormal patterns that are too subtle for humans to detect. AI technology has the potential to one day help doctors distinguish among the causes of cognitive problems, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy body dementia. The research suggests that EEGs, which are more widely available, less expensive, and less invasive than other tests, could be a more accessible tool to help doctors catch cognitive issues in patients early. When combined with the power of AI, EEG tests can provide healthcare professionals with a more economical and accessible tool for early diagnosis in communities without easy access to specialty clinics or specialty equipment.

AWS HealthScribe is helping medical professionals reduce administrative burdens and excessive documentation
Administrative burdens and electronic health records are significant stressors for physicians, which can detract from time with patients and lead to burnout. An American Hospital Association study found that physicians spend nearly twice as much time on electronic health records and desk work as they do interacting with their patients. AWS HealthScribe is helping to address these issues by transforming the patient-clinician experience through the use of conversational and generative AI. HealthScribe is a HIPAA-eligible service that uses speech recognition and generative AI to transcribe patient visits, generate preliminary clinical notes, and extract insights that help clinicians quickly revisit highlights of their patient visits and easily accept, reject, or edit content suggestions. HealthScribe enhances both patient care and the efficiency of medical professionals by reducing documentation time, increasing clinical note accuracy, boosting medical scribe workflow efficiency, and creating patient-friendly consultation recaps.
