Four lucky Sesame Street characters are grabbing their passports and heading to Paris! Elmo, his puppy Tango, Cookie Monster, and Abby Cadabby are going to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, and we’re already singing, “Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Champs-Élysées.”
Cookie Monster announced the exciting news on Today, and though he won’t be in France to compete in a cookie-eating contest, he and his friends will be incorporated into NBC Sports’ coverage of the Olympic games as part of a partnership between Sesame Street and NBCUniversal.
“The Olympics celebrates the best in sportsmanship and promotes kindness and respect, traits that are central to our mission to help children grow smarter, stronger, and kinder to build a better world,” Sesame Street chief marketing and brand officer Samantha Maltin said in a release. “Bringing Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby, and Tango to Paris will provide fun, entertaining, and enriching content for viewers of all generations.”
What to Expect
Per NBCUniversal’s statement, viewers can expect Olympics-related content across Sesame Street‘s social media platforms leading up to and during the Games (they’ve already started!), including the U.S. Olympic Team Trials and the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Ahead of the Games, Elmo, Tango, Cookie Monster, and Abby Cadabby will take a hot air balloon journey to France, and then NBCU will incorporate the beloved friends into its social and broadcast coverage. Based on Cookie Monster’s conversation with Today co-hosts Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin, and Carson Daly, you can expect to see him trying to meet world-renowned gymnast, Simone Biles.
“Me no can wait,” he said. “She like the chocolate chip cookie of gymnastics.”
