Girls Band Cry’s Nina Iseri Gets Angry-looking Figure from Toei

Toei Animation is currently taking pre-orders for a non-scale figure of Nina Iseri, the main protagonist of the Girls Band Cry anime. The pre-order period started on April 26 (and ends on June 30 at 11:59 PM JST), but it was only today that the Girls Band Cry YouTube channel uploaded a commercial video as a reminder of the angry-looking figure’s existence.
The highlight from this new promotional wave, however, is an X (formerly Twitter) post from May 21 JST. The official Girls Band Cry account posted a picture of the Nina figure that led to a bit of meme-ing from Japanese fans, who replied with fictional dialogue that matched the figure’s confrontational expression and pose. One reply referenced the lack of a webstore link in the official post (which simply says, “Currently taking pre-orders.”) by writing, “Order form? Please look for it yourself.” Another user cropped figure Nina’s balled-up left fist and commented that she seemed likely to beat up other figures that were sharing the same shelf if placed there.

The Nina figure, which stands at roughly 20.5 cm tall, is a Toei Animation Official Store exclusive and is priced at 10,000 yen with tax-included (~US63.89). It’s estimated to go on sale in December 2024.
Girls Band Cry premiered in Japan on April 5 (effectively April 6 at 12:30 AM JST) and is streamed on France’s Animation Digital Network. Toei Animation describes the music and youth drama as:
The main character drops out of high school in her second year, and aims at entering a university while working alone in Tokyo. A girl is betrayed by her friends and doesn’t know what to do. Another girl is abandoned by her parents, and tries to survive in the city by doing part-time jobs. This world lets us down all the time. Nothing goes as planned. But we want something that we can continue to like. We believe there’s a place where we belong. That’s why we sing.
The anime is part of a wider project that has the same name. Aside from the show, there are animated music videos, singles, live performances, and merchandise. The Girls Band Cry project was announced in April 2023.
