Best Fallout 4 mods: How to get multiplayer mod and more
Fallout 4 is a fun game, whether you’re returning to it for the first time since launch or experiencing it for the very first time in 2024.
Whatever your circumstances, mods make it that little bit better.
Now that the Fallout TV show is making headlines and the Fallout 4 next-gen update is out, the renewed interest has also seen an increase in mods.
These can be gameplay tweaks, big overhauls to the world or even a new costume for your favourite companion. Ironically, there’s even been one mod dedicated to removing the next-gen patch.
Since the community likes to add and/or remove mods on a regular basis, we’ve done the same by rounding up the best Fallout 4 mods to try out today.
How to use mods in Fallout 4
Fallout 4. Bethesda
Mods for Fallout 4 from the developer Bethesda can be downloaded from its official website.
To install a mod, you simply select ‘Add to library’ and load the game once it has finished downloading.
However, third-party websites such as Nexus Mods can also be used. Once you have clicked on your mod of choice, you must download it and save all the files to somewhere that is easy to access on your PC, such as a dedicated folder.
Then you will need to install a mod manager and log in with your corresponding credentials before navigating to your downloads, selecting them to make sure they are active. From there, you will be able to simply load Fallout 4 as usual.
On consoles such as Xbox Series X, there is a mod menu that allows you to download them straight to your game – however, there is less choice available.
Best Fallout 4 mods
Fallout 4. Bethesda
There are tons of Fallout 4 mods to play around with, so knowing where to start can be overwhelming. Here is a list of some memorable ones:
Multiplayer
Roaming around a post-apocalyptic wasteland can be dangerous, so having a buddy along for the radiation-fuelled ride would be comforting. Unfortunately, previous multiplayer mods for Fallout 4 have ceased to exist, and are no longer supported by their creators.
However, with the Building Bridges mod, players can interact with each other through a paper trail of notes reminiscent of games such as Elden Ring. It’s not quite the same as having a friend running alongside you, but it gives players a chance to share useful information.
Armorsmith Extended
Fallout. Gambit77 / Bethesda
One of the most popular Fallout 4 mods to date, surpassing 10 million downloads. Created by Gambit77, there’s so much within this mod that’s made it the go-to choice for players globally.
Some features include overhauling the mods system by adding more slots for more armour and clothes to equip, alongside being able to wear clothes underneath armour. Additionally, you can craft every power armour in the game and mod any clothing and weapons to pretty much whatever you want. It changes the experience completely and is an essential mod.

Change field of view
A limited field of view can be annoying for some players, and it can sometimes cause misalignment in specific scenarios in the game. This FOV mod will allow you to alter that, specifically during moments within Fallout 4 such as entering power armour or using a terminal.

Lucy MacLean (Fallout TV Show)
Fallout 4: Lucy Maclean. VaultGirl2077 / xMakeDamnSurex / Bethesda / Prime VIdeo
Thanks to this mod from VaultGirl2077 and xMakeDamnSurex, you can play as Lucy MacLean from the Fallout TV show. Perfect if you’ve just finished the Amazon Prime Video series.

Buzz Lightyear
Buzz Lightyear mod in Fallout 4. Trashlizard
Paladin Danse is a member of the Brotherhood of Steel, a pretty rigid companion that can accompany your adventures. While he’s certainly a fierce warrior, there is a way to lighten the guy up – and that’s the attire of everyone’s favourite toy spaceman, Buzz Lightyear.
That’s right! Spread infinity and beyond throughout the wastelands with this colourful mod created by Trashlizard that turns power armour into Buzz’s suit. It’s quite the makeover. Perfect for solving any intergalactic emergencies.

Swiftageddon
Taylor Swift is everywhere right now as she continues to dominate the world of music – even managing to make an appearance in the nuclear armageddon.
The mod from TheXzi alters the player’s Pip-Boy – the bulky wrist device that acts as a hub of information – to turn a bright shade of pink, which acts as a refreshing splash of colour in the otherwise barren world. It doesn’t stop there, though, as Swift’s face also appears as a background on each menu screen, so you can think of your favourite pop star while choosing the best weapon to take down a band of raiders.

Vault Girl Recreations – Cooper Howard from the Fallout TV Show
Fallout 4: Cooper Howard. VaultGirl2077/Bethesda
Another mod for fans of the TV series, this one from VaultGirl2077 and xMakeDamnSurex lets you play as Cooper Howard – human or ghoul. It’s highly detailed and looks quite impressive.

Naruto Running
Naruto. Pierrot, Aniplex, Viz Media
One of the most memorable things about the popular anime show, Naruto, is how characters sprint in it. With heads pushed forward and arms played out behind them, people in the series often look more like rapid chickens than real humans.
With this mod, players will be able to alter how their character runs when suited up in power armour to match that of the Naruto show with hilarious results.

Lowered Weapons
The Lowered Weapons mod for Fallout 4. Bethesda, lesma666
Though NPCs don’t mind having guns pointed at their face, it can ruin the sense of immersion running around the wasteland with your weapon always at the ready.
This mod seeks to remedy this by having – as the name suggests – your weapon lowered when you’re not firing it.
Not only does this add to the roleplay element, but it also improves your peripheral vision, as you get a good amount of it back by not having your Fat Man mini-nuke launcher up and at the ready.

Disable character light
Fallout 4. Bethesda / Robotgeant
Characters in Fallout 4 have pretty strong hero lighting that makes them glow unnaturally.
It’s extremely obvious in low-lighting settings such as indoors or at night, and the game looks remarkably more natural without them.
You don’t need to download anything for this one, it simply requires some .ini file tweaking – which you can find out how to do on the Nexus Mods page.

There are all the mods you need to know about to change things up in Fallout 4. Since the TV show’s debut, new mods are now being added regularly so we’ll be updating this article just the same so head back for more suggestions in future.
