Report: Top prospect Dylan Crews expected to be called up by Washington Nationals

Former LSU star Dylan Crews is set to make his MLB debut on Monday, according to a report from Grant Paulsen. Crews is considered one of the top prospects in baseball and the top prospect for the Washington Nationals. He was drafted by the Nationals with the No. 2 overall pick in last year’s MLB Draft.
“Sources: Nationals top prospect Dylan Crews is expected to be called up to make his MLB debut in DC on Monday night against the Yankees,” Paulsen posted on Twitter. “Crews and [James] Wood, together at Nationals Park for the first time, opposing Juan Soto and the Yankees.”

Dylan Crews has been playing at Triple-A Rochester since June after starting the 2024 season at the Double-A level.
During his time at Double-A and Triple-A this year Crews is hitting .272 with 21 doubles, 6 tiples, 13 home runs and 68 RBIs across 99 games.
Dylan Crews was selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2023 MLB Draft following an incredible career and final season at LSU. He hit .426 with a .567 on-base percentage in 2023, helping the Tigers win the national championship. Crews added 18 home runs, 70 RBIs and scored 100 runs. He was named the Golden Spikes Award winner.
Crews and Paul Skenes led the way during LSU’s run to a national title.
Speaking of Skenes, he is already in the Big Leagues and starring for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The righty is 8-2 with a 2.16 ERA across 17 starts.
The all-star game starter has an incredible 130 strikeouts in 104 innings pitched and has a WHIP of 0.94.
Crews and Skenes should see each other and potentially face off down the line as the Nationals and Pirates are scheduled to meet in a four-game series from Sept. 5 through Sept. 8.
It will be a fun reunion for what is expected to be two of the future stars of the sport.
LSU baseball coach Jay Johnson spoke ahead of last year’s MLB Draft about Skenes and Crews and the possibility of them going 1-2. That ended up happening and now they are both in MLB.
“It’ll be pretty special,” Johnson said of seeing his two stars being selected. “Obviously, it’s always about the team. But I have a different view maybe on things. Like, obviously, we want to win and we want to win championships. But how we do that is really important to me and you do that through development.
“To see Dylan and Paul, or Paul and Dylan, go as the first two picks in the draft? It’s something that I’m really proud of them for. They’re unbelievable players and very worthy of being selected up there. And they’re Hall of Fame people. Whatever team gets them is going to have a different organization immediately. Not just because of the talent they’re adding but the person they’re adding.”
