Joliet's Horrific Double Fatal: Reckless Homicide Charges Filed
JOLIET, IL — After devoting more than two months to investigating the events of February's overnight double fatality wreck that killed a Joliet husband and his wife at Black Road and Infantry Drive, Joliet police announced that 19-year-old Jacoby Hamilton of Crest Hill is back in Will County's Jail, this time he's facing four counts of reckless homicide.“My thoughts are first and foremost with those who have lost loved ones in this devastating and senseless crash," Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans declared in Sunday's announcement. "I commend the diligent work of our officers and detectives who responded to the scene and conducted the follow-up investigation leading to this arrest. A tragedy such as this only reaffirms our commitment to roadway safety, which will always remain a priority for the Joliet Police Department."Hamilton had been free at the time of the Feb. 18 wreck after being arrested by Joliet police on felony gun charges last year. However, officials said Hamilton kept skipping his court hearings for his gun case and for various traffic tickets he received from another incident, so a warrant was issued for his arrest in March, prompting his stay in Will County's Jail between March 19 and April 4.Then on Friday, Joliet police took him into custody for the double fatality that killed the 65-year-old man and his 59-year-old wife. A Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Hamilton, was northbound on 129th Infantry Drive approaching Black Road. As the Tahoe entered the intersection, it struck the driver’s side of a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by the 65-year-old Joliet man, who was westbound on Black Road at 129th Infantry Drive. The collision caused the Chevrolet Trailblazer to leave the roadway on the northwest corner of the intersection, striking a fire hydrant and overturning onto its passenger side. Walter Kretzler and his wife, Roxane Holt, were dead at the crash site.
