Walmart quietly changes Thanksgiving day meal – and confirms in small print it no longer serves 10 people for $7
WALMART has introduced its Thanksgiving day meal offering for this year, and it no longer serves a family of 10.
The all-in-one package deal now serves only eight guests but also offers a lower price point.

The retail giant confirmed shoppers could get their hands on the Thanksgiving offering starting October 14 in a press release.
It also emphasized that the meal would cost less than last year to keep it “inflation-free” and help customers save money during the holidays.
Additionally, the meal can be bought to gift to family or loved ones nationwide or to the Salvation Army.
For $53.04 ($6.63 per person in a group of eight), customers can buy the package on Walmart’s website or in-store.
It comes with over 29 items and ingredients, including 10 to 16-pound Whole Frozen Turkey.
There’s also enough for popular desserts and side dishes, including pumpkin pie and sweet potato casserole.
Fast pickup and delivery options are also available, including Early Morning delivery, which starts at 6:00 am, and Express Delivery, which brings items to Walmart shoppers’ doors in around 30 minutes.
John Laney, executive vice president of food at Walmart, emphasized the retailer’s mission to provide customers with an affordable holiday meal this year.
COMMUNITY SAVINGS
“Some of the holiday’s most special moments take place around the dinner table,” Laney noted in the release.
“At Walmart, we are committed to offering customers even deeper savings on top of our Every Day Low Prices for all their mealtime needs.”
“And with more opportunities to gift a meal and give back to those in need, we’re helping customers spread holiday cheer to their loved ones and their local communities,” he added.
Walmart’s Thanksgiving meal also comes as competitors like Aldi offer their similar all-in-one packages.
Aldi also noted that this year was its “lowest-priced” deal in half a decade, per a press release.
It wanted to offer guests a “welcome relief” from inflation and high grocery costs.
How to cut the cost of your grocery shop
BELOW are some tips on how to reduce the amount you spend on groceries.
Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
Never shop hungry – You are far more likely to buy more food if your tummy is rumbling
Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
Use social media – Follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
Check the small print – It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards
COMPETING VALUE
“America’s value leader helps shoppers save more and feast more this holiday season with the return of pre-inflation prices,” the release read.
“The meal delivers on the traditional, crowd-pleasing favorites that guests crave without the sales, coupons, minimum purchase requirements, loyalty cards, and other hoops required to save at traditional grocers.”
Aldi’s Thanksgiving meal feeds 10 for $47, less than $4.70 per person.
It comes with a Butterball turkey, stuffing, spices, gravy, rolls, mac & cheese.
There are also ingredients to make cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, and pumpkin pie.
Deciding between the Walmart or Aldi Thanksgiving meal will likely be determined by shoppers’ budgets, their number of guests, and other personal preferences.
