Lakers prepared to offer LeBron James whatever type of contract he wants

Before LeBron James’ June 29 player-option deadline, the Lakers have the opportunity to improve the roster. Beginning on draft night, they can start moving their first-round picks during and after the draft. As The Athletic previously reported, the Lakers are prepared to offer James whatever type of contract he wants this season. League sources told The Athletic that the opt-in and opt-out routes are both on the table, and the leading scorer in NBA history is expected to play up to two more seasons.Source: New York Times

One of the remarkable Jayson Tatum under-27 years old playoff stats is that he is likely going to pass Kobe for most points ever. But the most shocking one is he’s going to pass Kobe for 6th in assists and finish behind Magic, Rondo, LeBron, Tony Parker & Mo Cheeks (he’s 40 – 12:35 PM

More on this storyline
The Lakers are willing to offer LeBron James whatever type of contract he wants, be it a one-year deal, two-year deal, three years, and be it him opting out and resigning or him opting in and extending. So those two situations seem to have some sort of resolution. Of course, LeBron could opt out and leave or opt out and they could execute a sign-and-trade with another team. And that would clearly disrupt the Lakers’ offseason plans. -via YouTube / May 30, 2024

This isn’t just about championships, which generally require a costar (or two), a stout supporting cast, and a little luck. But even by a standard of individual accolades, our no. 1s fall short. Of the 27 players chosen first from 1994 to 2020, just four have won MVP (Allen Iverson, Duncan, James, and Rose). Just nine of those players made All-NBA at least twice. Eleven made at least one Finals—but seven of them did so while attached to a better player. Of course, that group includes young stars like Zion Williamson (2019) and Edwards (2020), who have plenty of time left to make their mark. -via The Ringer / May 29, 2024
