Jordan Smith, 2026 safety, likes what he sees at Tennessee
June has become a pivotal month in college football recruiting and things are already ramping up for Tennessee. The Vols kicked off the month with a camp this past weekend, and 2026 safety prospect Jordan Smith was one player who turned some heads.
Smith (6-foot-2, 180 pounds), from Warner-Robbins, Ga., created some buzz when he laid down a 4.42 40-yard dash during the testing portion of the camp.
“I rep (the 40) it at my school a lot and our coaches do a good job with us, so I thought I would be fast. My fastest ever is like a 4.39,” Smith said of showcasing his speed in front of Tennessee’s staff.
Smith wants to be known as more than just a speedster though. He brings an attention to detail to the safety spot, and wanted to show Tennessee’s coaches that this past weekend.
“I feel like I did well on my breaks today, I think I did a good job with that. I feel like I did good reading receivers’ routes and understanding what the coaches were talking to me about and then going out and applying it in drills,” Smith said.
Though Smith is just finishing up his sophomore year of high school he’s already hearing from a handful of major programs in the South.
In addition to Tennessee; Kentucky, Ole Miss, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Florida have reached out to Smith in the early stages of his recruitment.
Smith is a long way from making any decisions, but he liked the vibe he found on Rocky Top this weekend from the Tennessee coaching staff.
“I like the atmosphere here,” Smith said of his impression of the Tennessee program. “I’ve been up here before and had a chance to see them practice and stuff. It’s intense here. They have great competition with a good coaching staff. They connect with their players.
“They tell me that they like my athleticism and my speed. They really like my speed.”
Smith is already a long, rangy prospect who college coaches project as a ‘center fielder’ type roaming the back end of the secondary.
“Most schools are recruiting me at safety. I feel like I do a good job of reading receivers. I need to work on reading them out of breaks, but I think I did a pretty good job of that today,” Smith said of his game.
“I feel like I’m a great competitor and I bring a great work ethic to the table. I feel like I can push the person in front of me and that I can work with me.”
