Greenwich Police Warn Residents Of DMV Text Scam
GREENWICH, CT — The Greenwich Police Department is warning residents about a text scam in which messages purporting to be from the CT Department of Motor Vehicles ask for money to pay for outstanding traffic tickets."If you received a message like this claiming to be from the Connecticut DMV — don’t click the link! This is a phishing scam designed to steal your personal and financial information," Greenwich police said Tuesday in a Facebook post.The Federal Trade Commission offered the following tips to safeguard against this scam:Don’t click on any links in, or respond to, unexpected texts. Scammers want you to react quickly to get your personal information before you realize it’s a scam. Stop and talk to someone you trust.Reach out to your DMV if you’re worried. Use a phone number or website you know is real — not the info from the text.Report and delete unwanted text messages. Use your phone’s “report junk” option to report unwanted texts to your messaging app or forward them to 7726 (SPAM).
