Brooke Shields Has Fans Applauding Her Over This Latest Piece of Relationship Advice
With a marriage spanning over 23 years, Brooke Shields has all the chops to give anyone some expert relationship advice. And, during a recent appearance on the Today Show, she did just that.
Chatting to Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, the Mother of the Bride star, who has been married to film director Chris Henchy since 2001, talked about one key part of her long-term relationship: being able to change together.
“You have to really keep talking about it because we do change in different increments and at different times,” Shields said. “So then you have to reeducate, reintroduce yourself to your partner.”

Shields then added a few examples of what that could look like, including “I’ve changed a little bit and this isn’t funny anymore” or “I need this from you.”
“Be really honest about it because it’s important,” she added. “Any type of partnership you really have to be willing to embrace it but also get to know the person along the way.”
According to Shields, she will reiterate those feelings with her daughters Rowan, 21, and Grier, 18, in every phase of their lives. “There’s a positivity surrounding [change],” Shields said. “We have to embrace everything, our bodies, our lives, and make the most of them.
Just last month, Shields dished on another big piece of having a healthy relationship: being able to forgive each other.
“Always have forgiveness in your heart, but make sure that you communicate about it,” Shields told Us Weekly. “Don’t just give forgiveness and say, ‘Oh, well, I guess this is the way it is’ or, ‘Oh, I’ll forgive that behavior,’ or [do it] just to keep the peace.”
Instead, Shields recommends actually sitting down and talking about it. “Instead of pointing the finger, like, ‘You made me feel like this,’ just [change] the vernacular [to], ‘I got to be honest. I really felt like this when that happened, what was going on with you?’” she explained.
Per Shields, only then will actual forgiveness be able to take place. “And then you decide if you really want to forgive the person, but to just forgive blindly so that you stay together? It’s going to implode one day,” she added. “That is my opinion.” We’re taking notes!
