She Told Her Twin Sister To Stop Making Her Play The Role Of Her Baby Daddy
Have you ever helped a friend raise their kid to the point where you felt like you were one of their parents?
A woman had to put her foot down after her sister continued to expect her to pay childcare expenses for her one-year-old son, even though she’s been supporting them since he was born.
She’s 29 and has a twin sister named Maya. Maya gave birth to her baby boy, Lucas, a year ago, and it’s been an interesting journey since.
Maya had to quit her job while she was pregnant, and unfortunately, Lucas’s father wasn’t very helpful. He became aggressive, accusing Maya of cheating on him before getting pregnant with Lucas. But when it was time for a paternity test, he fled.
“After Lucas was born, [Maya’s] finances became too messy with a newborn and postpartum complications,” she said.
“She asked if I could let her stay with me temporarily so she doesn’t have to pay rent, and I agreed.”
She inherited her grandmother’s house and had a spare room for Maya and Lucas, and they’ve been living there for a while now.
Being under the same roof as a baby and a new mom has been rough, especially since Maya needs almost just as much help getting by as her son. Their parents also live too far away to assist them.
She’s been acting like Lucas’ second parent, getting up at night to feed him and watching him when Maya needs alone time. But things got more complicated as she found herself paying for his needs on top of everything.

“I paid for everything baby-related, [including] hospital bills for both her and my nephew, food, clothes, and diapers, you name it,” she explained.
“But now that Maya and my nephew are stable enough [and] she resumed working, she started pushing for more. She expected me to keep paying for everything, but I told her it’s harder now that I’m not putting in as many hours [at work].”
Since she works from home, Maya has begun expecting her to watch Lucas for most of the day and refuses to pay for daycare, so she started paying for it herself.
Things came to a head the other day when Maya asked her to take Lucas to his doctor’s appointment, and she said no. She demanded Maya take a day off for the appointment because she’s been losing too much work time caring for Lucas, which is affecting her performance.
Maya tried making her feel guilty, telling her she should do it for her nephew and that she’ll need to make more sacrifices if she has kids one day.
“I said, ‘I will when the time comes, but I’m not Lucas’s dad, and although I’m happy to help where I can, I shouldn’t be expected to change my life for him,'” she recalled.
“Maya took the day off, but she hasn’t spoken to me except for a mumble when I talk to her.”
Making things extra uncomfortable, Maya’s been keeping Lucas in her room with her when he’s not at daycare.
She loves her little nephew with all her heart but isn’t ready to become a parent and would much rather fulfill the traditional, less committed aunt roles from now on.
Should she be open to helping Maya for a bit longer or continue to stand her ground?
