Dana White’s Unexpected Conor McGregor Update Earns Daniel Cormier’s Honest Verdict
UFC CEO Dana White just breathed life into the return of ‘The Mac.’ White went live on Instagram and hinted at Conor McGregor’s potential return to the Octagon, possibly in 2024. The UFC head honcho had previously denied talking about McGregor when a reporter asked him about the Irishman’s return. He was also at odds with ‘The Notorious’ about December 2024 being his return timeline. But the winds seem to have changed since then and UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier could not be happier.
With the cards playing out right in the fight fans’ interests, Daniel Cormier weighed in on the treat. The UFC commentator broke down the reason why ‘Mystic Mac’ was all fired up. After all, Cormier was previously pretty hopeful that the former UFC double champion would return sometime during December.
Daniel Cormier gets excited about Conor McGregor’s return
On the 29th of August, the UFC CEO took to Instagram and raised the excitement of the fighting community with some insights. He dropped a bombshell announcing that the UFC would soon have announcements involving McGregor, Charles Oliveira, Alexander Volkanovski, and Michael Chandler. He said, “We talked about Conor today. We got Conor news coming up. We’ve got Conor news coming up, we’ve got (Charles) Oliveira news coming up, we’ve got (Michael) Chandler news coming up, we’ve got Max Holloway news coming up, all that good sh-t coming soon.”
The former UFC heavyweight champion took to his YouTube talk show to react to White’s recent announcements. But the thing that caught his attention was McGregor’s return. Cormier said, “Dana White made a big announcement yesterday talking about he’s got big fights coming up for Chandler, Volk, Charles, and Conor, surprisingly.”
DC reflected back on the time when the UFC head honcho didn’t want to comment anything about McGregor’s return. And later, news about the Dubliner fighting either in December 2024, or early 2025 went circling around the internet. But one thing was certain for DC. He believed that McGregor would take on Chandler in Las Vegas.
Cormier continued, “He said that Conor was not gonna fight in this calendar year. Still, there is no card for December. Vegas is where the fight card will take place in December. Conor McGregor needs to fight in Vegas. He will fight Michael Chandler seemingly. So, it seems as though when the boss went public instead and started to say, ‘Well, this guy is not fighting’, it almost lit a fire in Conor McGregor. It seems like we’re getting closer and closer.”

Despite White’s previous comments about McGregor not returning in 2024, Cormier remained hopeful for the most anticipated comeback to happen in December. Let’s see what the former heavyweight champ had to say about McGregor’s return.
DC was hopeful of a ‘Notorious’ fight in December 2024
The entire fighting community was hopeful of witnessing ‘The Notorious’ land against ‘Iron’ at UFC 303. But a broken pinky toe dashed all that wishful thinking. But later, fight fans seemed to believe that the Irish mixed martial artist would return to fight Chandler at UFC 310. However, Cormier seemed to believe that the bout might materialize sooner than expected.
DC said, “When you listen to the boss [White], it’s in how he says things and you’ve kind of got to read in between the words and he says Conor isn’t fighting. But even him saying ‘we’re going to have to see’ tells you that there is hope. Every single time he says that, he is open to it. So he is not as closed to the idea as some may think, because I haven’t heard anything about a fight announcement, I haven’t heard anything about a potential December fight.”
If there’s one thing you need to know about the UFC, it’s that they are masters at making the fights they want to make. A few weeks ago, they had heavyweight (former) buddies Sergei Pavlovich and Alexander Volkov fight each other. How did they get the training partners to sign the contract? Well, each one thought the other had signed the contract first and agreed to the bout. How did this miscommunication happen? That is left to our imagination.
Now, considering what Cormier said about White’s comments lighting a fire in McGregor’s belly, are there some negotiation tactics in play here? Or is it just the UFC trying hard to pick and schedule fights for the available champions and PPV stars to close out the year?
While the MMA realm eagerly waits for the UFC bossman to reveal more insights into McGregor’s return, the Irishman quirked everything up with a winking emoji. Needless to say, the Dubliner is as excited as everyone else about his fight, and something surely seems to be cooking. But do you think he will step into the Octagon in December? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
