England superstar involved in tragic bike crash during Euro 2024
Anthony Gordon, a star player for England, gave fans a scare yesterday after he fell off an e-bike during a recovery session. The incident left him with noticeable injuries to his face, hands, and leg. Despite the alarming nature of the fall, Gordon’s resilience shone through as he continued to participate in training sessions.
Gordon, 23, may have mistaken his brakes, causing the high-speed crash. This happened while the team was training in Blankenhain, eastern Germany. Despite his injuries, he was present at training the next day, showing visible scrapes and bruises.
Gordon was a bright spot for England during a recent match against Slovenia, coming on as a late substitute and impressing fans. His performance has led many to call for him to start in the upcoming game against Slovakia on Sunday. His energy and skill were crucial in creating chances, making him a valuable asset for the team.
Defender Ezri Konsa, who was also riding around the training base, admitted to laughing when he saw Gordon on the ground. The 26-year-old Aston Villa player explained, “It was a recovery session, and some players were ahead. As I came down the hill, I saw Ant lying there with his face bloodied, hands and chin injured. I just started laughing! At least he wore his helmet. That’s the main thing.”
Ezri continued, “I’ve never been on a bike like it before. It’s weird – you can pick up a lot of speed. It has a turbo button, so when you press it and pedal, it goes fast. It must have been a bad fall. I think he pressed the wrong brake because in England, the brakes are on different sides. The left is the back brake. I think he pressed the left, which was the front brake, and he just took off! He’s fine now. I think that will be the last time we go on the bike!”
England training session and team spirits
Despite the injuries, Gordon was in good spirits during the next training session. He had a deep graze on his chin, another on his nose, as well as injuries to his hands and a scuffed knee. His teammate, centre-back Marc Guehi, remarked, “I saw that massive gash on his chin, but he’s OK – he just fell off his bike. It’s been a bit of a joke in the camp.”
Gordon’s quick pace and skill were evident during the goalless match against Slovenia. He created one of England’s best chances, setting up Cole Palmer, who unfortunately fired at the keeper. This moment highlighted Gordon’s ability to change the game, a quality that will be crucial in the upcoming matches.
An England team source assured fans that Gordon would be fit for Sunday’s crucial last-16 match against Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen. “Anthony was out with other players on the e-bikes they use for recovery after games and had a bit of a mishap. It was quite a bump, but thankfully he’s OK, and the injuries won’t affect his match fitness at all. He will definitely be available for selection.”
Manager Gareth Southgate, who faced criticism from fans after the Slovenia game, will be relieved by Gordon’s quick recovery. The team also expects the return of left-back Luke Shaw, who has been injured since February. Shaw confidently stated he would be back for the next game, boosting the squad’s morale further.
The England camp remains optimistic as they prepare for the match against Slovakia. Gordon’s accident, while serious, has not dampened the team’s spirit. His determination and positive attitude are commendable, reflecting the resilience and strength of the entire squad. Fans are eagerly awaiting to see Gordon back on the field, ready to make a difference and help lead England to victory.
