Starfield Shattered Space: How to Get the REV-8

Back in August, Bethesda released a free update for Starfield that brought a much-needed addition to the game: the REV-8 vehicle. Many players had been frustrated with the game’s traversal mechanics, as jetpacks and sprinting could only cover short distances, leading to long and pretty boring journeys across vast but empty planets.
The REV-8 changed all of that, making exploration faster and comparatively more enjoyable. With low oxygen meters and weight limits being a constant problem with the base game, this new vehicle was a welcome addition for those tired of slow-paced travel.
Unlocking the REV-8 in Starfield
Starfield’s REV-8 does make land travel drastically better.
In Starfield, The REV-8 not only offers a faster way to get around, but it also has a boost feature that lets players accelerate or even jump into the air.
To unlock the REV-8, players need to head to any Ship Services Technician. These technicians can usually be found at spaceports in larger cities like New Atlantis or Akila City. When speaking to the technician, players will notice a new dialogue option, which lets them purchase this vehicle.
For 25,000 credits, players can buy the REV-8, which will immediately be available for use and will spawn next to their ship at any landing pad.

While there aren’t any performance upgrades available for the REV-8, players can customize its color and upgrade some of the features via the technician.
Unfortunately, no new vehicles or variants were added with the Shattered Space expansion, much to the disappointment of many players.
Using the REV-8 for Exploration
The vehicle can be bought from any ship services technician.
Once the REV-8 is purchased, it automatically spawns near the player’s ship at spaceports, ready to drive right away. The vehicle comes with a horizontal boost and a vertical leap ability, which can be used to travel faster or reach high places that were previously inaccessible with jetpacks, like the peaks of certain hills, buildings, etc.
Tip
The REV-8 can also be used inside cities! Be careful about running over pedestrians, though.
The controls might take some practice, especially for those using a mouse and keyboard, but players will probably get the hang of it quickly enough.
Aside from making travel quicker, the REV-8 is equipped with a scanner, headlights, and even a laser cannon, offering more than just a transportation option. It can be used to kill creatures and aliens, much like Mass Effect’s Mako.

The vehicle’s handling can be influenced by planetary conditions like low gravity, so players should keep that in mind when driving on different planets, like Mars.
While the REV-8 is the first working vehicle in Starfield, hopefully, more will be added in the future, possibly with different types of vehicles. What new features or modifications these vehicles might have is still uncertain, but the REV-8 has already added a lot of fun and utility to the game’s exploration mechanics and made it all that much more fun.
It’s just a shame that it took almost a year for a rather basic feature that should’ve been in the game from the start.
Have you tried out the REV-8 in Starfield yet? What other types of vehicles would you like to see added? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
