Five-Star Plus+ PF Caleb Wilson recaps officials, lays out timeline, breaks down possible upcoming visits
Caleb Wilson is On3’s No. 3 overall player in the current 2025 On3 150. The 6-foot-10 forward from Atlanta (GA) Holy Innocents Episcopal is now playing with the Nightrydas organization on Nike’s EYBL Circuit. The defending Peach Jam champions are now 13-1 this season and tied for first place overall. Wilson is averaging 12.1 points.
“My catch and shoot and my defense have improved,” Wilson told On3. “I’m way better at perimeter defense and I’m a better shooter. I’m here to prepare for college and get coached really hard. I’m trying to learn NBA terminology and concepts, and most importantly, I’m out here trying to win.”
On3 was able to catch up with Five-Star Plus+ forward Caleb Wilson after a recent live viewing to talk about the latest in his recruitment.
“I’ve taken official visits to Auburn, Kentucky, and Stanford,” Wilson said. “The Kentucky visit was with Coach (John) Calipari and the Stanford staff was with Coach (Jerod) Haase. The new staff at Kentucky has not reached out to me, and neither has the one at Stanford. Coach Calipari is now recruiting me at Arkansas.”
Wilson breaks down Arkansas and Auburn
ARKANSAS: “I talk on a more consistent basis with Coach Calipari now that he is at Arkansas. He just told me that it is like he is going home. He is ready to get going at Arkansas and he is excited about what he can do there. It was crazy waking up that day and seeing on my phone that he left Kentucky, I thought it was a joke or something. It was definitely not something I thought I would see while I was in high school.
“He’s really been talking with me about developing me at a high level and developing me into an NBA player.”
AUBURN: “The visit was really good. Coach Bruce Pearl develops pros at a high level, especially forwards. We really talked about developing me at a high level. And that Georgia to Auburn pipeline is really strong. I watched a lot of Jabari Smith, I would go watch him play when I was in middle school. He was a really good player, could catch and shoot at a high level and defend.”
Caleb Wilson talks recruitment
“I have not set any other visits, yet,” Wilson said. “I’m talking about setting up visits with Kansas, and Baylor, and I’ll take official visits to Tennessee and Alabama too.”
TENNESSEE: “When I went on my unofficial there their culture really stood out to me. Coach (Rick) Barnes really prides himself on defense and he is really good with his offense ideas and plays. Our relationship has continued to grow, we talk frequently, at least two or three times a week. I worked out with Dalton Knecht a couple of days ago. Coach set him up to do very well, and put him in good positions. Obviously, he is a really goo player too, but set him up to play really well.”
BAYLOR: “They play defense there. They always have little guards who are really good too. I want to play with good guards when I get to college.”
KANSAS: “It’s a basketball school, and I’m really interested in them because of that. I haven’t really looked too much into them, but I want to see what it’s like. I talked with Coach (Bill) Self and he didn’t really have a message for me, we are still just trying to get to know one another. They like my versatility and the fact that I can guard multiple positions. That is really what they talked about with me.”
ALABAMA: “Their message to me is that they develop forwards at a high level. They recently had guys like Brandon Miller and Noah Clowney. Their play style also plays heavily into my thoughts on them. I feel like I would thrive in certain systems. Spacing the floor and getting up a lot of threes and finishing at the rim is very attractive to me.”
Duke and UNC
“Duke and UNC are both recruiting me too,” Wilson said. “We haven’t talked much about visits yet or anything, but we’re talking and they came to see me.”
DUKE: “Coach (Chris) Carrawell, and Duke, are recruiting me right now. We talk maybe two or three times a month. He is a pretty cool guy. I like their message, that they develop fours at a high level, and their development. They like my game a lot, my versatility. They want people who can guard multiple positions. I talk with Coach (Emmanuel) Dildy and Coach (Jon) Scheyer too.
“I’ll probably visit them in the Fall. I want to focus on winning Peach Jam this summer. I’m looking forward to that. Cameron Indoor is a historic building, I want to see that. They say it’s like an institution. They were one of my dream offers, so I was excited when I got that offer last year.”
UNC: “They have a really rich basketball culture and they and Duke have the best rivalry in college basketball. I just really like their coaching style; Coach Hubert (Davis), even though he is a really nice guy, he holds his players accountable. They like my versatility, especially on defense. They talk a lot about defense there.”
In his words
“I’ve heard recently from USC, with Coach (Eric) Musselman, and TCU,” Caleb Wilson said. “Neither one has offered yet, but I talk with them.”
“I don’t have an exact time frame for visits yet. I just want to go on them next fall. I don’t think that I’ll be signing early. I’ll probably wait until the spring because there is a lot of change that can happen, coaches leaving, getting fired, all that. You commit to a coach, so I’ll probably want to wait.
“I want to go to play for a coach that believes in me. Playstyle will matter, I’m a versatile player, so I want to play in a system that allows me to play versatilely. I’d like to play in a defense that allows me to switch and guard multiple players. Offensively, I feel like the game comes to you and there is not much iso-ball, and that is no matter where you go. So I’m focusing more on defense.
“Playing with good, unselfish players will be something I look at too.”
