Biden Says He's Not Allowed To Call Young Girls On Stage, But He Will 'Do It Anyway' | WATCH

American President Joe Biden acknowledged Monday that his staff frequently advises him against certain actions, but emphasized his determination to proceed regardless. Speaking at a White House event honoring Gotham FC, the 2023 National Women’s Soccer League champions, Biden admitted that aides often tell him he "can’t" do things, but he plans to "do it anyway."Joe Biden admits his staff doesn’t let him around small children and does it anyway like a pervert pic.twitter.com/NX11hMswwr— Drew Hernandez (@DrewHLive) September 23, 2024 The 81-year-old president made the comments during a gathering in the East Room, where he also invited young girls from the audience to join him on stage. “You know, I thought when I became president, I’d get to do things that I want to do,” Biden said after entering the event holding hands with soccer star Ali Krieger. “But my staff tells me what I can’t do.” He then added, “But I’m going to do it anyway.”Biden called on the young girls to come up on stage, saying, “All the young women, young kids out there — that are out there, come on up and do this one. Stand behind me, would do. Just come on.” After a momentary pause, he added, “and the guys.”As the youngsters joined him on stage, some of his statements to them were unintelligible, but he was overheard asking a couple of their names. The president did not explain why his team warned against such contacts. However, in recent years, Biden has faced criticism, mainly from Republicans, who have shared images of him making both children and women uncomfortable during public appearances. His critics have dubbed him "Creepy Joe" because of these confrontations. The situation escalated in 2019 when numerous women publicly expressed their dissatisfaction with Biden's unwelcome physical touch. In response, Biden vowed to be “more mindful about respecting personal space” moving forward. As president, his public demeanor has resulted in fewer issues than when he served as vice president under Barack Obama.Social norms are changing. I understand that, and I’ve heard what these women are saying. Politics to me has always been about making connections, but I will be more mindful about respecting personal space in the future. That’s my responsibility and I will meet it. pic.twitter.com/Ya2mf5ODts— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) April 3, 2019 Despite these attempts, Biden's statements and behavior during the occasion sparked debate about his conduct. This comes at a time when concerns about his age and cognitive ability have grown. As Biden nears the conclusion of his first term, concern about his mental capacity has grown, notably among members of his own party. Biden defied staff orders on Monday, soon before leaving for New York City to attend the United Nations General Assembly sessions. His trip plans come after the president was chastised for taking extended vacations. During a cabinet meeting last Friday, first lady Jill Biden talked more than the president during the public half, increasing doubts about his capacity to serve out his term. Although Biden has openly proclaimed his goal to finish strong, his actions and remarks have demonstrated more independence as he approaches retirement. Some Democratic officials have already urged him to stand down, worrying that his diminishing abilities could damage the party's future.
