What to watch on TV this week: 6th – 12th May
After months of waiting, and years since the last full season, Doctor Who fans are finally getting to see Ncuti Gatwa’s first full run of episodes as the Fifteenth Doctor.
The first two episodes of the season will arrive on Saturday, followed by the return of behind-the-scenes series Doctor Who: Unleashed.
That’s not all in what is shaping up to be a big week on the box, with Inside No. 9 also returning for its ninth and final season, and the Eurovision final set to take place on Saturday night.
Meanwhile, big new shows are also arriving, including Dark Matter and Hollywood Con Queen on Apple TV+, Bodkin on Netflix and Maxton Hall – The World Between Us on Prime Video.
Last but not least, Beat the Chasers is back for a new round of celebrity specials on ITV1 and the Women’s FA Cup 2024 is coming to an end, with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur facing off in the final.

This spin-off from The Chase returns for a new round of celebrity specials, with new episodes airing throughout the week. This first instalment will see Neil Delamere, Michelle Ackerley, Charlie Stayt, Danny Sebastian and Rick Edwards taking on the sensational six – The Sinnerman, The Beast, The Governess, The Menace, The Vixen and The Dark Destroyer.
Dark Matter

This new sci-fi series starring Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly follows Jason, a physicist, professor and family man who is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Over the course of the series, he tries to return to his reality through a mind-bending landscape of lives he could have lived, and finds he has to save his true family from the most terrifying foe: himself.
Hollywood Con Queen

This three-part docuseries follows journalist Scott Johnson and private investigator Nicole Kotsianas as they attempt to unmask the Con Queen, a mysterious individual impersonating powerful female executives in Hollywood, luring victims with the promise of life-changing career opportunities.

Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton return for one final season of their comedy-horror anthology series. This first episode, called Boo to a Goose, follows late-night passengers who get stuck in a tunnel when their train breaks down, and sees tempers start to fray when a nurse gets her purse stolen.

This darkly comedic thriller stars Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen and Robyn Cara as a motley crew of podcasters who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic, coastal Irish town. However, once they start pulling at threads, they discover a story much bigger and weirder than they could have ever imagined.
Maxton Hall – The World Between Us

This German-language series is adapted from Mona Kasten’s book Save Me, and follows Ruby, a scholarship student at Maxton Hall private school who unwittingly witnesses an explosive secret. In response, arrogant millionaire heir James Beaufort is determined to silence her, but their discussion unexpectedly ignites a spark between them.
Doctor Who season 14

The long-running sci-fi series returns for its latest season (also being called season 1) starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as companion Ruby Sunday. The first two episodes, Space Babies and The Devil’s Chord, are airing back-to-back, arriving on BBC iPlayer at midnight followed by a BBC One slot later in the day.
Doctor Who: Unleashed

This behind-the-scenes series in the style of Doctor Who: Confidential returns, having first debuted alongside last year’s Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials. It once again sees Steffan Powell taking a look at the making of the new episodes, with the first two focusing on Space Babies and The Devil’s Chord.
Eurovision 2024 final

The Eurovision Song Contest comes to a head with this grand final, where the UK’s act, Olly Alexander, will be taking to the stage in Malmö, Sweden, to perform his song Dizzy. The UK made huge ground a couple of years ago, coming second with Sam Ryder’s hit Space Man, but slipped back down the table last year. Can Alexander boost the nation’s chances this time?
Women’s FA Cup 2024 final

Release date: Sunday 12th May, 2:30pm, BBC One
This year’s Women’s FA Cup comes to a close, with Manchester United taking on Tottenham Hotspur in the final. The match will take place at Wembley Stadium, with United looking to avenge their defeat in last year’s competition, and Tottenham hoping for glory as they compete in their first major final.
