Visit Tracker: Where Florida Gators commits & targets are headed to start OV season
With official visit season upon us, the Florida Gators are set to host more than 40 officials during the next three weekends. But most of the program’s top targets also have visits set with other programs, too. So in addition to staying on top of the visits to Gainesville, we want to keep you in the loop on targets not at Florida. With that in mind, here are some key visits we’ll be following this weekend:
Quarterback
*4-star Keelon Russell (Alabama this weekend) — SMU COMMIT: This is a fascinating recruitment. Russell is committed to SMU but has several officials lined up, including Florida on June 14. Alabama absolutely is a school to watch here, but also keep an eye on Oregon and possibly Texas, should the Longhorns offer.
Receiver
*4-star Vernell Brown (Ohio State this weekend): Brown arguably is the Gators’ top receiver target — and if that’s the case we can see why. He’s a sensational prospect with no holes in his game. Right now, it seems like a Florida-FSU battle. His Florida official is June 14. At one time there was lots of buzz about Ohio State but there hasn’t been as much of late. Can the Buckeyes make some noise with a good visit?
*4-star Donovan Olugbode (USC Trojans this weekend): The Gators love this prospect and seem to have made him a priority from a really solid receiver board. He’ll officially visit them June 14. Florida views Southern California and Washington as perhaps the two biggest threats so this is an important official to follow.
Offensive line
*5-star IOL Solomon Thomas (LSU this weekend) — FSU COMMIT: Could LSU actually be running second behind the Seminoles here? It’s certainly possible. Thomas has expressed his affection for the SEC and the Bayou Bengals are pushing hard. He’ll be in Gainesville on June 7.
*4-star OT Micah DeBose (LSU this weekend) — Many view this as an Alabama-LSU battle but DeBose will officially visit the Gators on June 7 and Florida probably is sitting in the No. 3 spot.
*3-star OT Taren Hedrick (Ole Miss this weekend): Florida will host him for an official on June. So will the following schools: Ole Miss (May 31-June 2), Texas A&M (June 14-16), Purdue (June 21-23) and Kentucky (June 28-30). That both of Florida’s offensive line coaches have NFL experience could play a significant role in this recruitment. Hedrick is a player that hasn’t been talked about much that potentially could land in Gainesville before all is said and done.
Defensive line
*4-star DL Malik Autry (UCF this weekend) — AUBURN COMMIT: Auburn feels very good about keeping Autry in the class. Other schools think he’s open. UCF coach Gus Malzahn and his staff have close ties to Autry and his high school in Alabama (Opelika). Autry will visit the Gators on June 14.
Edge
*4-star Jalen Wiggins (Stanford this weekend) — GATORS COMMIT: Wiggins seems to be pretty locked in with Florida. Notre Dame, which had been heavily pursuing him, has backed off some after landing another commit at his spot. FSU is going full throttle. Then, you have Stanford. While it would seem the Cardinal aren’t much of a threat, Wiggins has extremely high academics so this visit is interesting.
Linebacker
*4-star Tavion Wallace (Arkansas this weekend): Make no mistake, FSU is Florida’s main competition here. But Arkansas defensive coordinator Travis Williams also recruited Wallace’s older brother and has close ties to this recruit.
*4-star Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng (USC Trojans this weekend): The touted linebacker at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy recently made another unofficial visit to Gainesville and likely will official with the Gators down the road. He’ll visit Notre Dame next weekend, followed by Ohio State and Michigan the following weekends. The Gators seem to be a major player here but this could go in numerous directions.
Defensive back
*4-star S Hylton Stubbs (USC Trojans this weekend) — USC COMMIT: Stubbs’ commitment to USC earlier this year came seemingly out of nowhere and there are many who don’t think he’ll stick. Meanwhile, optimism continues to run high in Gainesville and Stubbs will officially visit the Gators on June 14. He’d like to see them play well this fall. That might have to happen to flip him. Can USC solidify his verbal or might this be Stubbs’ final visit there?
*4-star S Lagonza Hayward (Georgia this weekend): Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and South Carolina are among the schools to watch for this Peach State product. At last check, the Gators were No. 2 behind the Vols. He’ll be in Gainesville on June 14.
