Peaky Blinders star confirms key character won't be returning for upcoming film despite cliffhanger
As fans continue to wait for the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, one star from the original series has confirmed he won't be returning.Sam Claflin, who played real-life fascist Oswald Mosley in the show's fifth and sixth seasons, revealed that we won't be seeing the character again in the film, after the season 6 finale ended with Mosley having married Diana Mitford in Germany in 1936.When asked whether he would be back, Claflin told Metro: "I don’t know that I should not say anything, and keep the speculation going… but no, sadly, I’ll share – I’m not in the film, though I’m so excited as a fan of the series."I don’t know any details other than the casting and some of the people in it. I’m thoroughly excited."On potentially playing the character at some point in a later iteration of Peaky, Claflin added: "The hope is that he is still alive. Well, I mean, Oswald Mosley lived until 84. He is still alive in the world, whether or not he’s a part of the world."I’ve heard rumours similar that [the film is] set in the future. I think Oswald Mosley kind of started losing light and his following during the war."
The long-awaited Peaky Blinders movie is expected to be set during the Second World War, at some point between 1939 and 1945.Creator Steven Knight previously teased that it would focus on a "sort of untold story that happened in the Second World War, which Peakys are going to be involved in".Claflin isn't the only star confirmed not to be returning. Kate Phillips, who played Linda Shelby, told Radio Times earlier this year that she is not involved in the film, adding: "There were discussions and then it didn't pan out."
Stars from the series who are involved include Cillian Murphy, Stephen Graham, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Ian Peck and Packy Lee, while new cast members include Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth and Jay Lycurgo.Earlier this year, while promoting his series A Thousand Blows, Knight teased Graham's role in the film, saying: "You know he’s going to show up and give you the best and more than you expected. And he doesn’t disappoint in the Peaky Blinders movie."Peaky Blinders seasons 1-6 are available to watch on BBC iPlayer. The Peaky Blinders movie will stream on Netflix.
