Brooklyn adds another young wing in Ziaire Williams, a former lottery pick, while Memphis gets cap space. In what appears to be salary dump for the Memphis Grizzlies and yet another development opportunity for the Brooklyn Nets, Ziarie Williams, a former lottery pick, is moving from Memphis to Brooklyn along with yet another draft pick, the Dallas Mavericks second in 2030.
Adrian Wojnarowski was first with the news of the trade...

Specifically reports Woj, the deal will work this way:
Williams goes to the Nets with a 2030 second-round pick via the Dallas Mavericks for Mamadi Diakite and the draft rights to Serbian Nemanja Dangubic, the 54th pick in the 2014 draft, sources said.
Brooklyn now has 13 second round picks over the next seven drafts. Since the trade deadline in February, the Nets have added five seconds, three in the Royce O’Neale trade to the Lakers and one in the Mikal Bridges trade to the Knicks. They also have 16 first round picks and a first round swap.
As Woj and Mike Scotto of Hoopshype report, the trade of Diakite, who’s partially guaranteed at a little more than $1 million this coming season, will free up cap space for Memphis who is hoping to sign Luke Kennard.
As for the 6’9” Williams, it’s an opportunity to show that he was worth the 10th overall pick in the 2021 Draft.
Williams, 22, has had a limited role since going 10th overall in the 2021 draft out of Stanford, and could get more of an opportunity with the rebuilding Nets. Brooklyn picks up another future draft asset to take on Williams in the deal.
Williams has averaged 7.5 points and 2.6 rebounds in 150 games for the Grizzlies in his three NBA seasons.
Last season, Williams, who played one year at Stanford, averaged 8.2 points on shooting splits of 40/31/83. Williams also fell victim to the Memphis injury bug, going down late in the season with a hip flexor. He played in 51 games.
The trade puts the Nets a bit closer to the luxury tax threshold which Sean Marks said last weekend he will not breach and trigger both the repeater tax and sanctions under the new CBA. At this point, Brooklyn appears to be about $4.3 million short of the threshold, but with other deals possible in the coming days or weeks, that number could change.
Williams, like Cam Thomas and Day’Ron Sharpe, is a member of the 2021 draft class meaning the Nets can choose to extend him prior to the start of the season or a year from now, when he would be a restricted free agent.
