Disgraced ex-NYC Councilman Dan Halloran arrested at Miami airport

Disgraced ex-City Councilman Dan Halloran — who spent years in federal prison for a $200,000 bribery scheme to rig a mayoral election — has been arrested and charged for having hundreds of sickening child sex abuse videos on his phone, according to authorities.
Halloran, 54, was busted at Miami International Airport on Saturday as he arrived in the US for a layover flight from Cuba, according to a criminal complaint filed in the Southern District of Florida.
He was found with 1,362 child-sex videos hidden on his iPhone — including about 35 videos of “prepubescent” girls being victimized, according to the complaint.
Halloran was booked into the Broward County Main Jail but was in custody at the Federal Detention Center in Miami as of Tuesday morning on two federal child pornography charges.

The disgraced former politician admitted “knowingly” having the vile material — telling authorities that around “two-thirds to three-quarters” of the 1,362 videos in a hidden album depicted child sexual abuse, according to the complaint.

The former councilman — who now works as a dive instructor while living in the Long Island suburb of Floral Park — was buying the criminal content on the messaging app Telegram, the complaint said.
Halloran, who served on the City Council from 2010 to 2013, was booked into the Broward County Main Jail but was in custody at the Federal Detention Center in Miami as of Tuesday morning on two federal child pornography charges.
He previously served a federal prison sentence in connection to his part in the bribery scheme aimed at rigging the 2013 New York City mayoral election.
He was arrested in 2013 alongside then-state Sen. Malcolm Smith after being accused of pocketing $20,500 in bribes as part of a scheme to get Smith, a Democrat, on the ballot for mayor as a Republican.

At the time, his lawyer made an unsuccessful 11th-hour plea to try and claim an insanity defense for his client.
When he was in office in Queens, Halloran was known for holding the title of “prince’’ in a pagan order that included public floggings.
He was convicted in 2014 and served five years out of a 10-year federal prison term before getting released due to the COVID pandemic.
Hollaran is scheduled for a pre-trial detention hearing on April 4, while his arraignment has been set for April 14, according to Local 10.
