17 New PA Laws Impact Vets, New Moms, Stutterers & More
HARRISBURG, PA — Gov. Josh Shapiro signed 17 new bills into law this week that will affect the lives of many Pennsylvanians - including those who want to become professional hair braiders. Also impacted are veterans, juvenile delinquents, home healthcare workers, retired judges, new mothers, stutterers and Alzheimer's and dementia sufferers.Here's a look at the new laws: House Bill 155: Attempts to increase the home care workforce by removing the requirement that face-to-face interviews are conducted in person and allowing interviews via two-way video.House Bill 269: Makes veterans discharge forms inaccessible to anyone other than the veteran, an immediate family member or authorized agent for 85 years rather than the current 75 years because some veteran records have been accessed for fraudulent purposes.House Bill 1700: Amends the definition of "public safety official" to include retired judges at any judicial level.House Bill 1730: Amends state Real Estate Licensing Act exclusions to include cemetery company or cemeteries owned or controlled by a bona fide church or religious congregation, a church association or a municipality. House Bill 1820: Exempts professional hair braiders from having to obtain a cosmetology license.House Bill 2084: Amends an act providing minimum standards, terms and conditions for the licensing of persons engaging in wholesale distributions in interstate commerce of prescription drugs.House Bill 2127: Requires all prenatal and postnatal clinicians to distribute information relating to postpartum depression to the mother and her family to increase awareness of the signs of postpartum depression and how to seek treatment.House Bill 2266: Mandates a six-month driver's license suspension for anyone caught racing on a highway or roadway.House Bill 2268: Requires private health insurance, Medicaid and CHIP coverage of speech therapy for stuttering.House Bill 2383: Establishes an older adult mentor volunteer program.House Bill 2561: Extends the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission's use of temporary rules to regulate the industry until 2028. The temporary rules, in place while the constitutionality of federal rules to regulate the industry is being challenged in court, were set to expire next year.Senate Bill 169: Implements Pennsylvania Juvenile Justice Task Force recommendations that include standardizing the expungement process; shortening the timeline for expungement eligibility in certain cases; setting a state reimbursement rate for county juvenile defense expenses and authorizing state payments to counties providing alternative services for juveniles.Senate Bill 170: Shortens juvenile delinquent disposition review hearing intervals from nine months to three months.Senate Bill 668: Amends the Health Care Facilities Act that regulates certified healthcare aides.Senate Bill 765: Modernizes provisions related to borough surcharges, borough managers, organization of civil service commissions and budget adoptions.Senate Bill 840: Establishes the Alzheimer's, Dementia and Related Disorders Office and the Alzheimer's, Dementia and Related Disorders Advisory Committee.The article 17 New PA Laws Impact Vets, New Moms, Stutterers & More appeared first on Pittsburgh, PA Patch.
