Several people were injured in the UK after a 53-year-old man allegedly plowed his car through a parade of Liverpool FC football fans who were celebrating the team’s Premier League championship.
The vehicle slammed into “a number of pedestrians on Water Street” around 6 p.m. local time just as the parade was ending, according to police.
Thousands had gathered to celebrate the Liverpool Football Club’s 20th soccer championship.

“The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained,” said Merseyside Police in a statement.
“We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.”
It remains unclear whether the smash was intentional or accidental.
“We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight’s incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre,” Merseyside cops urged.
Frightening footage from the scene shows the car accelerating into the crowd several times before being stopped by bystanders.
No details about injuries have been released.
Witnesses described the accident as “clearly deliberate.”

“It was horrible. And you could hear the bumps as he was going over the people,” said 48-year-old Harry Rashid, who brought his young daughters to the parade and was about 10 feet from the car when it suddenly swerved into the crowd.
“He put his foot down again and just ploughed through the rest of them,” he told Sky News. “Then my daughter started screaming, and there were people on the ground. It looked clearly deliberate.”
Others described scenes of violent carnage and confusion.
“It was so loud. People sounded desperate,” said Natasha Rinaldi, who was watching the parade from a friend’s home along the route when she said the car began running people over.
“We could just hear screams and screams. We were very confused. Some of my friends were down there and the car was so near them. It was a horrible scene, nobody was expecting it,” she said.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the incident “appalling.”
“The scenes in Liverpool are appalling — my thoughts are with all those injured or affected,” he said in a statement.
“I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident. I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate.”
