Weekend Shootings in Memphis Leave One Dead, Another Critically Injured
A spate of violence rattled Memphis as two shootings in Parkway Village claimed one life and left another man fighting for his life in the hospital. The first tragedy unfolded on Saturday night when a man sustained critical injuries from gunfire. Memphis Police Department responded shortly before 11 p.m. to South Perkins Road, discovering the victim who was subsequently rushed to Regional One Health, as reported by Action News 5.
The weekend's bloodshed didn't cease there. Earlier today, a second onslaught of bullets fatally struck a man at the Gems Food Mart gas station on 2756 Getwell Road. MPD officers rushed to the scene after 3:30 a.m. to find the man dead. According to the police, a gray pickup truck was seen leaving the scene, potentially carrying the suspected shooter, according to FOX13 Memphis.
The injured victim from Saturday's incident remains in critical condition. The identities of neither the survivor of the first shooting nor the deceased from the second incident have been released by authorities. As detectives proceed to piece swiftly together the motives and connections, if any, between these episodes of violence, they are urging the public to come forward with any potential leads.
The police have not yet established a link between the two shootings and have refrained from speculating whether the incidents are part of a broader uptick in violence within the city.
