Bachelor Nation fans first met Katie Thurston when she showed up at the Bachelor mansion with a s*x toy during Matt James’ season. She quickly won over viewers with her no-holds-barred attitude and willingness to tell it like it is. She didn’t, however, win over Matt James. He sent her home in Week 8.
She went on to star as the lead on Season 17 of The Bachelorette. Katie got engaged to Blake Moynes during the season finale. They were together for about six months before ending the engagement and going their separate ways. But there’s no hard feelings. He reached out when she announced in February that she had cancer.
She was unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer at just 34 years old after finding a lump in her breast. After initially being misdiagnosed as Stage 3, further tests revealed the cancer was Stage 4. However, it wasn’t as aggressive as previously thought. So, instead of traditional chemotherapy, her doctors put the Bachelorette alum on a treatment plan of oral medications and monthly hormone-blocking injections.
The hormone blockers put her in early menopause but didn’t stop her body from producing hormones, so the doctor is trying a different medicine. Blocking the hormones would potentially prevent the cancer from growing and spreading. It already spread to her liver.

Katie Thurston has struggled with several side effects from the oral medication, including fatigue and memory loss. She’s also experienced hair loss, which is hard for anyone to deal with. She recently showed off a new look amid the hair loss. Stay on this page to see her new ‘do.
Bachelorette Star Talks Reality TV Future
Katie Thurston didn’t just look for love on the ABC dating franchise. She was also on Season 3 of FBoy Island. She had to choose between Vince Xu and Benedict Polizzi during the season finale. Katie chose Vince Xu, but they revealed hours after the season finale aired on TV that they had split up. Katie Thurston also briefly dated another contestant from her Bachelorette season, John Hersey, after her engagement to Blake Moynes ended.
But she ultimately found love away from the cameras. Katie Thurston took a career turn to the comedy world a few years ago. It was through the comedy industry that she met her now-husband, Jeff Arcuri. They got engaged in the summer of 2024 and married in March.
A fan recently sent Katie Thurston a DM on Instagram. The fan said that they missed seeing her on reality TV. Katie reposted the interaction and wrote that while she is retired from dating shows, she’s open to joining a competition show. Bachelor Nation stars are frequent contestants on The Traitors and Special Forces. Bachelor star Colton Underwood was recently revealed as a contestant on Season 4 of Traitors, but maybe Katie could compete on the next season of Special Forces.

Katie Thurston Shows Off New Look Amid Hair Loss
Katie Thurston has down moments during her cancer battle like anyone else would. However, she tries her best to get through it with a positive attitude. She admitted having a difficult time with her hair thinning due to hair loss. But instead of moping over it, she decided to style her hair. She managed to blow dry her hair, but cancer fatigue set in. So, she just put her hair in an updo instead.
“I blow dried it … but, honestly, I think I’m just going to, like, rock this Tinker Bell look for a while,” she said about her new look. Katie Thurston also revealed that she ordered extensions to try out but they hadn’t arrived yet.
