Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc Episode 2 Review – Old Wounds Resurface
Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc has only just begun, and it is already setting the stage for an otherwise emotional and gut-wrenching journey ahead. While the first episode wasn’t the best of what the show and Ufotable have offered before, it certainly wasn’t a weak start. Comparing that to the latest episode, things get serious firsthand.

This season is taking nothing too lightly, and it clearly shows. With all the Hashira busy training the Demon Slayer Corps and improving themselves, the task falls on Tanjiro’s shoulders to convince Giyu to also take part in it. As seen in the previous episode, the reason for his absence was then kept a mystery. Starting right where they left off, season 4 episode 2, Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka’s Pain is an emotional rollercoaster.
Demon Slayer and the Cloud of Growing Sorrow
Demon Slayer fans were left on a cliffhanger after the first episode with Kagaya Ubuyashiki sending messages to both Tanjiro and Tamayo through his crows. While the latter is asked to work with the Demon Slayer Corps, the former has a more personal task at hand. Tamayo and Yushiro find themselves in a difficult position. Demons aren’t known to collaborate with Demon Slayers, yet she knows that isn’t something she can avoid either. The beginning and ending of the 23-minute episode focus on Shinobu and Tamayo, but the heart of the episode isn’t the duo.

The focus of this episode is Tomioka Giyu and Kamado Tanjiro. This story started with the two of them, and thus, it comes as a great concern to not only Ubuyashiki but also Tanjiro. The bedridden Ubuyashiki urges him to pursue Giyu and talk to him about joining the training. However, he isn’t the only one who decides to stay away.

Shinobu dedicates herself to her research, preparing for Tamayo’s arrival while Giyu has an internal struggle Tanjiro knows all too well. What this episode tackles well is the usage of humor not in a sense to make the audience laugh but to balance the otherwise sad and melancholic themes it tackles with.
The Darkness Behind the Lifeless Eyes
One thing the Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc deals with is the past of both Giyu and Tanjiro. Knowing that Giyu wasn’t willing to take part in the training, it becomes more important to understand why he chose to do so. Upon learning that Giyu saw Tanjiro as the next Water Hashira comes as a shock, however, it is the reason for it that would push fans to tears. This episode goes deeper into the Water Hashira’s past and his relationship with Sabito.

Aren’t you going to pass on what Mr. Sabito entrusted to you?
It deals with his survivor’s guilt, seeing that Sabito was the only one who couldn’t pass the exam in Giyu’s year. That too because he was out there saving everyone. He believed that Giyu should have been the one to die and not Sabito. This is where fans get to see Tanjiro’s side of things. His survivor’s guilt is not just with losing his family but also with Rengoku. For his mentor, the case is not just with Sabito but also with his elder sister, who sacrificed herself to save him.
SUGGESTEDDemon Slayer: To the Hashira Training Has Lost to Mugen Train by Failing to Break 1 Coveted Record
Both of them deal with complex emotions that are beautifully showcased. They find companionship in their pain. The episode takes up the pain and how it is important for both of them to keep on living for the people who gave up their lives for the sake of their loved ones’ futures. The beauty of pain seeps through a genuine want to find the meaning of life and its value.
