Memphis Murder Suspect Arrested After Falling Through Ceiling During U.S. Marshals Pursuit
The pursuit for a Memphis murder suspect reached a dramatic head when Deario Wilkerson, 20, was arrested after unexpectedly plunging through the ceiling of the house in which he was hiding. The suspect was on the run since April for the fatal shooting of Troy Cunningham found dead at the 1500 block of N. Merton Street in Memphis, as per the U.S. Marshals Service.
An arrest warrant for first-degree murder and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon was issued for Wilkerson on May 9, 2024. Despite being accused of first-degree murder, his whereabouts remained unknown until the U.S. Marshals Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force (TRVFTF), in collaboration with local law enforcement, traced him to a North Merton residence. After tracking him down and establishing a perimeter around the residence, Wilkerson tried to hide in the attic while authorities searched below. He fell through the ceiling and was subsequently captured.
As reported by the U.S. Marshals, "Wilkerson was not injured from the fall and was taken into custody with no further incident." The arrest marked another victory for the TRVFTF, a collaborative effort that draws on the skills and resources of several agencies, including Deputy U.S. Marshals, sheriff's deputies from Shelby, Fayette, and Tipton counties, and officers from Memphis and Jackson Police Departments, among others.
Since its start in 2021, the task force has played a key role in reducing violent crime in Western Tennessee. With over 2,600 violent fugitives and sexual predators captured, the TRVFTF has become essential in fighting crime.
