Who could be next to commit to Tennessee?
Charles House is in. The On3 four-star defensive lineman out of Charlotte North Mecklenburg committed to Tennessee over Alabama and Georgia on Saturday afternoon. Who could be next?
Josh Heupel and the Vols are in the mix for several high-profile recruits who are expected to make decisions within the next six weeks or so.
With Charles being the most recent commit, let’s stay in the trenches and on the defensive line. Mariyon Dye is on campus this weekend for an official visit and the Vols are high on his list with a decision likely in July. A source says the SEC program has a chance to pull him out of Big Ten country, so this visit could go a long way. Michigan, Purdue and Ohio State are in the mix for the Indiana native.
Isaiah Gibson is another one Tennessee has their eye on. He is back at Georgia this weekend and the Bulldogs have been considered the team to beat, but the Vols are high on his list too. Coming off his official visit to Knoxville last week, the buzz was strong.
On the offensive side of the ball, it started with David Sanders, Jr. The Vols are, and have been, high on his list. Sanders is close to George MacIntyre, the leader of Tennessee’s class, and Tennessee is competing against Georgia and Ohio State late in the process. Sanders has talked about committing in August, but he is not ruling out a decision next month. The buzz has been consistently strong around the Vols.
Josh Petty and Juan Gaston are two offensive linemen in Georgia Tennessee has a real shot at too. Petty is at Florida State this weekend and Gaston is at Oregon. The Seminoles are high on Petty’s and I am told not to sleep on Georgia Tech, but Tennessee is up there too. Gaston is expected to choose Georgia or Tennessee, but the Ducks are hanging around.
Staying in Georgia, keep an eye on wide receiver Travis Smith, safety Lagonza Hayward, linebacker Jadon Perlotte and linebacker Christian Gass. Smith was at Alabama last weekend, and the Crimson Tide are in his top three, but the top two are still Georgia and Tennessee. With a strong weekend visit, things could start to trend toward the Vols. The same could be said for Hayward. His recruitment has been fluid in recent weeks, but Tennessee was the frontrunner for months. Florida and South Carolina are the top competition. With Perlotte, he is committed to Georgia, but that commitment is far from locked in. Tennessee is in a good spot with Gass, but up against Florida, Georgia and USC.
At running back, Shekai Mills-Knight is a top in-state target. He was back on campus recently. Ole Miss is hosting him this weekend. The Vols have a real shot to keep Mills-Knight home. Other running backs to watch are Ousmane Kromah and USC commit Daune Morris.
Looking back out of state at tight end, Dasaahn Brame is set to commit on June 29. This is likely coming down to Oregon and Tennessee. Oklahoma cannot be ruled out, but the Vols made a big move last weekend and Oregon will look to counter this weekend. A decision is expected early next week.
Onis Konanbanny is cornerback on campus this weekend for his official visit. Florida State really made a big impression on the South Carolina native earlier this month. LSU and North Carolina are also on his radar. Konanbanny is working to make a decision later this summer.
