The nation-defining car that Jeremy Clarkson said offers ‘extraordinary comfort’ can now be bought for less than £8,000
THE nation-defining car dubbed “extraordinary” by Jeremy Clarkson is now available for less than £8,000.
The super-popular motor became a British icon thanks to its everyman appeal and affordable price.

When asked which car best encapsulates the UK, many might come up with the caddish cool of a Jaguar or the rugged power of a Land Rover.
Even some of the more endearingly hopeless creations from British Leyland had their own unique charm.
And of course, the red bus and the black cab have their own iconic status around the globe.
But, above all others, it was the Ford Mondeo that represented the everyday Brit over the years.
Indeed, it was the car that formed the basis of Mondeo Man, the shorthand used by former PM Tony Blair to conjure up the image of the average man on the street.
While the term originated back in the 1990s, the Mondeo endured in Europe until 2022.
And it is still sold in the Middle East and China in its fifth generation.
Reviewing the 2015 model for The Sunday Times, former Top Gear host Clarkson said: “There are many cars that offer a sporty, taut and connected-to-the-road feel, but very few that offer a comfy place to sit down after a long day at work.
“If that’s what you want, then you’ll be wanting the Mondeo.
“I really did start to appreciate the Mondeo’s extraordinary comfort.
“And there’s no getting away from the fact that it is extremely large and extremely good value for money.”
The Grand Tour legend made that final remark at a time when the Mondeo was selling for around £20,000.
Now, though, the same model featuring the EcoBoost engine can be picked up for less than half that.
One listing on Motors sees a 2015 Mondeo with 69,726 miles on the clock up for grabs at just £7,699, despite being in pristine condition.
It comes after an iconic two-door sports car was rumoured to be making a comeback 18 years after it was discontinued.
