The Vanishing of Ethan Carter VR will be removed from sale this week
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter was one of the very first games to support first-generation VR headsets, with a VR version of the game being sold for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive back in 2015. Unfortunately, the game will soon be delisted from Steam.
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter VR will soon be delisted, the developers have announced through an update on Steam. The developers say they can “no longer support” the VR version of the game and can't guarentee that it will continue to work on future VR headsets or operating systems. As a result, the VR DLC for the game will be delisted.
Here is the full statement:
“On Friday (31.05.2024), we will be removing the option to buy the VR version of Vanishing of Ethan Carter for new players. If you already own the title, nothing is changing, and you can still access it as before. This decision was made because we can no longer support this version of the game, so we cannot guarantee it will work with new VR headsets and OSes”.
While the VR version of the game will no longer be available for sale, the standard, flat-screen/pancake version of the game will continue to be available. If you want to pick up the VR DLC before it goes away, you can grab it for £6.99 on Steam, but you'll need to grab it before Friday.
KitGuru Says: I doubt many people were still waiting to pick this one up, but just a few days of warning before a delisting still isn't great.
