Kamala Harris Is Losing Sleep Over the Election
By Jesus Mesa
Vice President Kamala Harris opened up about the personal toll the upcoming election is taking on her, admitting that the stakes are so high that she is losing sleep.
Speaking with Howard Stern on his radio show on Tuesday as part of her ongoing media blitz, Harris said the presidential election's outcome will have far-reaching consequences for the nation's future, highlighting the risks to democracy, national security, and Americans' basic needs.
"I literally lose sleep and have been over what is at stake in this election," the vice president said.
During the interview, Stern asked Harris if, "God forbid," former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, won the election—would she feel safe or even stay in the country?
In response, Harris said she is "doing everything I can to make sure [Trump] does not win" the election. She pointed out the dangerous path the country could take if Trump is reelected.
"This is an election about strength versus weakness," Harris said, warning that Trump's leadership, particularly his admiration for authoritarian figures, would undermine America's position at home and abroad.

Addressing Stern's question about feeling safe if Trump retakes the White House, Harris continued, "We are building a coalition of Republicans, independents, Democrats, Libertarians—people from all walks of life—who are coming together to say this election is about putting country before party."
Russian President Vladimir Putin was referenced multiple times in the interview. Harris said she is worried that Trump's return to the presidency would further erode trust in American democracy and weaken U.S. alliances around the world.
The vice president said: "This is about asking: Do we want a president who will abide by the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, or someone who is constantly flattered by Vladimir Putin of Russia?"
"He admires strongmen, and he gets played by them," Harris added of Trump.
Stern grilled Harris on topics ranging from Prince to her husband Doug Emhoff to F1 racing to teachers. Harris focused heavily on Trump and his "desire to be a dictator."
Harris' interview with Stern comes as she shifts from her previous strategy to a full media blitz. She and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, have several interviews lined up with major outlets in the coming weeks.

The strategy change comes after encouraging news from the most recent New York Times/Siena College poll, which shows the race between Harris and Trump remains extremely close. Harris holds a narrow lead of just three percentage points over Trump.
Conducted between September 29 and October 6, the poll shows Harris at 47 percent to the former president's 44 percent. The poll surveyed 3,385 likely voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 points.
