‘I didn’t sign up for that,’ Walmart shopper slams over receipt check – and cries ‘Costco is different’
A WALMART customer has slammed the company for its receipt check policy claiming it’s inconsequential.
The customer is one of many who has taken issue with Walmart’s policy and claimed they had a simple solution when asked for proof of purchase.

Google MapsCustomers have compared Walmart to Costco, another retailer that requires customers to show their receipt[/caption]
“I always just wave the receipt, and tell them to have a great day,” the shopper wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“It makes no sense having them check, and I didn’t sign up for that.”
The customer also shops at Costco but has taken less issue with the receipt check policy there because it’s part of the membership.
“Costco is different because nothing is bagged and to get a card you agree to get checked when you leave,” they continued.
Another user pointed out a similar issue, stating that Walmart employees rarely check to see if everything is correct.
“Costco on the other hand its in your membership contract so they can stop and check your receipt plus half the time Walmart just glances at the receipt and says your [sic] good like wtf was the point?” another user stated.
Receipt checks are one of the many policies retailers like Walmart have used to prevent theft.
However, others believe it is not as effective as the company might think.
“Cracks me up that @walmart still checks receipts at the door when a good percentage of their loss is from their own employees,” a shopper wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
She claimed that when shopping she noticed that employees targeted people at “random” rather than stopping everyone.
“People who know how to steal, know patterns,” the user added.
Other shoppers felt harassed when dealing with some of Walmart’s employees.
“Really enjoyable how @Walmart refuses to hire cashiers, baggers, employees to keep items stocked or people to get carts in the middle of the parking lot, but they have plenty of folks to hound you on your way out to show them a receipt after you did their job checking out,” wrote another angry shopper.
Another user even detailed how they got chased for not showing their receipt.
“The greeter at @Walmart chased me down and YELLED at me to show him my receipt after I declined bc I’m not legally required to in any sense,” they wrote.
She insisted this could put Walmart workers into dangerous situations, suggesting shoppers could retaliate.

AI-POWERED RECEIPT CHECK
While Walmart customers are having issues with the receipt check policy, Sam’s Club has come up with a new technological solution.
Their new AI-powered machines capture people’s receipts while they are exiting the store.
“Both exit technology and Scan & Go are driving new levels of convenience and raising member satisfaction among members,” Sam’s Club chief product officer Todd Garner said in a press release.
“What distinguishes Sam’s Club from our competitors is our ability to seamlessly deploy this technology at scale across our nearly 600 clubs nationwide.
“Whether it’s a single item or a cartful, we’re revolutionizing the checkout experience.”
Walmart shoppers are hoping the retailer incorporates a similar technology.
“Great idea. Use it for Walmart too. No more problems with employees fighting with customers who have paid for all their items,” one person wrote on Facebook.
“Walmart next! There’s never any open human checkouts!” another person commented.
“Then stop trying to check my receipt at Walmart!” a third person wrote.
