Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s decision to put their love on display early on in their relationship is putting them through some serious consequences during their reported split. They would rather keep their marital issues out of the headlines at this point because the paparazzi are watching their every move now.
On Sunday, the estranged couple met up at his 12-year-old son’s basketball game at a local YMCA. (You can see the photos HERE.) While it’s sweet that Lopez and Affleck are trying to support their blended family, it is obvious from their body language that stars are just like us — when it’s awkward, it’s awkward. The duo arrived separately, according to Page Six, and smiled as they greeted each other. They didn’t kiss each other on the lips though, it was strictly air kisses as their cheeks touched each other. Affleck’s face looked a bit tense as the photographers snapped away at their uncomfortable PDA.

It is a much different sight from their loved-up red-carpet appearances over the last few years. They would look adoringly at each other while giving a smooch on the lips. It’s hard to spin the narrative 180 degrees in the opposite direction, and we feel their pain — going through a breakup is hard, but in the public eye, it’s even worse. The reunion comes on the heels of Lopez’s tour cancellation where she revealed to her On the JLo newsletter subscribers that she’s “heartsick and devastated” about the decision. “Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary,” she wrote while noting she would be focusing on her family at this time.
A source told Entertainment Tonight that Affleck and Lopez’s “relationship is not over yet,” so people shouldn’t write them off as a couple. While “both of them have been very down,” they are trying to “figure out what each of them is going through and wants” by “staying in separate homes.” The couple continues to be at odds over their different lifestyles, and it’s been a tough aspect of their relationship to figure out.
“When Ben’s having a problem, you can see it all over his face and he does want to talk about it and hash it out, but it can be exhausting,” a source told The Sun. “That’s not the world Jennifer lives in most of the day. She’s all about winning, not pain, and she’s still determined to have this fairy-tale ending with Ben, at any cost.” Nobody has any idea how this story will end, but fans are witnessing how tricky celebrity marriages can be because there is no privacy.
