Manhattan prospect reacts to Kansas State offer
The 2026 class in the state of Kansas appears to be strong. It is becoming the new norm in the Sunflower State to produce loads of Power Four talent. Kansas State has offered a handful of in-state prospects in the 2026 class.
Manhattan High’s JJ Dunnigan was one of the recent Sunflower State prospects in the 2026 class to receive an offer from K-State.
“My initial reaction was shocked,” Dunnigan began. “What made me shocked was that I got offered coming into my junior year and guys like my friend Mike Boganowski didn’t get offered till after their junior year.”
It was Kansas State head coach Chris Klieman who extended the offer to the Manhattan native.
“Coach Klieman was very inviting and easy to talk to. We talked about my summer plans and then jumped into the offer. After that he confirmed me coming to camp [June 2nd],” he shared. “What stood out was the timing of the offer. His confidence in me as a player really stood out, I believe there have only been three others offered at my position in my class.”
He will be a corner at the college level where his father, James, played at K-State from 2001-2002.
“[The offer] means a lot because I’ve always looked up to my dad and this town has a great football atmosphere,” he opined. “To be honest we don’t talk to much about [his playing days at Kansas State] because I live here and I get to see it for myself at basketball and football games it’s like I’m almost home.”
Dunnigan is looking forward to the K-State camp.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the coaches and going and competing in one on ones,” he pointed out.
Kansas State is in on the Manhattan native early. His only other offer is from Colorado State, so the Wildcats are his first Power Four offer. Being the first Power Four offer could come in handy for K-State.
“It means a lot to me to be recognized as a player of this caliber. K-State has definitely shown love and gave me my first opportunity to play at a high Power Four level,” he said. “I am excited to see what the future holds and K-State will always hold a special place in my heart. I have also heard from Nebraska and Oklahoma.”
The next step in the recruiting process for Dunnigan is going to camps. Besides Kansas State he will be camping at Nebraska, Oklahoma and Kansas. His camp at Nebraska will take place June 7, Oklahoma June 13 and Kansas June 18.
“I’m hoping to learn more about the schools, coaches and culture,” he concluded. “Hopefully picking up some offers along the way.”
