Report: Multiple people struck by lightning during Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands
Things took a scary turn once play was suspended due to lightning in the area on Saturday afternoon in the third round of the Travelers Championship. Three people were reportedly struck by lightning at TPC River Highlands, the location of the tournament in Cromwell, Connecticut. Both fans were reportedly conscious and transported to the hospital, according to a report from BreakingNowCT on Twitter. Golfweek also reported the news on Saturday evening.
David Dusek of Golfweek posted the official press release from Cromwell Fire Department, which included more details on the scary incident.

“On June 22nd, 2024, at approximately 16:26 hours, the Cromwell Police Department began receiving multiple 911 calls of a lightning strike in the area of 6 Pierson Green. Police, Fire, and EMS responded to the area within minutes. On arrival, first responders identified a tree struck by lightning and three patients near the strike. EMS crew treated two patients who were transported to area hospitals for further evaluation, and one patient who refused treatment. All remaining Police, Fire, and EMS units cleared the scene.

The third round of the Travelers Championship resumed at 6:20 PM EST, nearly three hours after the delay began at 3:30 PM EST. There was also a fairly extensive lightning delay on Friday afternoon as well, but golfers managed to get their rounds completed.
Xander Schauffele and Tom Kim are currently in the lead at 16-under par. Akshay Batia sits at 15-under and Tony Finau and Sungjae Im sit at 14-under par. Scottie Scheffler and Colin Morikawa joined Im and Finau, sitting at 14-under par.
Cameron Young shot a 59 on Saturday, just the 13th round below 60 ever recorded on the PGA Tour. It marked the first round of 59 shot on tour since 2020. Young is in the clubhouse with 13-under par for the tournament, sitting in a tie for eighth place after three rounds.
Ludvig Aberg of Sweden fired a 62 on Saturday to crack the Top 15. He currently sits at 12-under par for the tournament in a tie for 12th place.
