Those who regularly purchase second-hand items often post their best finds to a Reddit thread dedicated to thrift stores.
One of the latest items that was shared was an 18-karat broach that the lucky shopper bought for $30.
“Thrift shop find. 18k gold and angel skin coral brooch. Made in Italy and marked 750,” they said in the post.
The accompanying image showed off the accessory that looks like a rose.
It has a golden stem and pin and the flower head is made from angel skin coral.
Fellow thrifters were stunned by the find with one calling it a “gorgeous piece.”
“If the crack doesn’t compromise the flower, I’d keep it. From your photo, it’s hardly noticeable!” they added.
The new owner of the broach noted the damage in a comment saying, “I’m not sure if I should replace the coral since it’s got a crack in it.”
However, another thrifting enthusiast revealed that while it is damaged, the value of the piece may not be impacted.
“If I remember correctly, angel skin coral often shows cracks, however, it does not detract from its value,” they said.
“It’s a gorgeous piece.”
While this is good news for the shopper, the best is yet to come.
The same broach has been valued by jewelry experts as worth over $1,700.
Badis Jewelers based in Clifton, New Jersey, is selling one for $1,785 on eBay.
The experts note that the leaves of the broach are “incredibly detailed” and “hand-finished.”
“The coral is masterfully carved into a beautiful rose flower shape and displays a very light pinkish-white color,” the description continues.
Other thrift shoppers have made a pretty penny with niche discoveries in the past
“The three naturalistic leaves show incredible texture and are neatly set on a polished and a Florentine finished stem, all of which add a truly attractive touch and elegant look to this piece.”
Despite the huge value of the broach, it is not yet known if the thrift store shopper will sell it.
Meanwhile, a Goodwill shopper bought seven bottles of perfume priced at $1.
She then discovered that the retro scent is now rare and each bottle is worth $220.
