The extravagant stunt that landed Choi in hot water was documented in a since-removed YouTube video aptly titled "Destroying a Lamborghini with Fireworks." As pursued by Choi, the display of pyrotechnics did not include the necessary approvals from regulatory bodies. In detail recounted by NBC News, the Federal Aviation Administration was bypassed for filming authorization, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was overlooked for explosives licensing. These omissions, among other legal concerns, have painted Choi's viral quest in a grave light, with federal authorities now circling the consequences of his actions.
Further lifting the veil on Choi’s intentions and preparatory actions, a federal affidavit illuminates the influencer's ambitious planning - flying to Nevada to procure fireworks, recognizing they were banned in California, and a series of incriminating text messages regarding the logistics of the shoot. As reported by U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of California, Choi expressed to a camera company his idea to "make a short, one minute video of an 'attack helicopter shooting missiles (mortar style fireworks) at the car, while the car is trying to run away and dodge the missiles using flares (roman candle fireworks attached to the back of the car.'" These revelations stand in stark contrast to the brazen showmanship depicted on-screen.
