Indiana High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams – September 23
The Indiana On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list as of Sept. 23 reveals that only four of the top ten teams have remained undefeated. Meanwhile, only three teams in the 11th to 25th spots have remained unscathed five weeks into the 2024 Indiana high school football season.
However, while some schools might have moved around the board recently, the state’s top three teams have retained their positions since the season started. Here’s how Indiana’s top teams after another round of action.
The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory. According to the model, three teams from Indiana rank in the top 100 nationwide.

1. Brownsburg
Previous: No. 1The Bulldogs remain undefeated following a nail-biting 31-30 victory over eighth-ranked Fishers. Oscar Frye finished with 331 yards and two touchdowns, while Branden Sharpe had 128 receiving yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Shakovon Sumpterbey had a receiving and a rushing touchdown out of 92 yards from scrimmage. However, after escaping Fishers, Brownsburg’s path remains challenging because they will face second-ranked Westfield on the 27th and 13th-ranked Zionsville on Oct. 3.
2. Westfield
Previous: No. 2The Shamrocks improved to 5-0 after a 21-14 victory over Hamilton Southeastern. Running back Deacon King dominated the Royals with 141 rushing yards, 59 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. Their undefeated record will be on the line as they visit Brownsburg on Sept. 27 in the showdown of Indiana high school football’s top two teams.
3. Center Grove
Previous: No. 3The Trojans escaped with a three-point victory over Trotwood-Madison (38-35), improving their record to 4-1. Gabe McWilliams threw for 310 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions, while Nolan Rees had 89 rushing yards and a touchdown. Tristan Baxter and Dominick Barry each had a touchdown catch. Center Grove can extend their winning streak to five games by defeating Lawrence Central on Sept. 27.
4. Warren Central
Previous: No. 4The Warriors earned a well-deserved victory by beating Ben Davis, 24-21, in a game that lasted two overtime periods. Jaydin Rivers and Airic Hester connected for two touchdowns, while Kendall Garnett II added a rushing touchdown. Meanwhile, the Warren Central defense generated 81 tackles (11 for negative yardage) and a sack. Warren Central could jump to 6-0 in the 2024 Indiana high school football season with a win over Pike on Sept. 27.
5. Cathedral
Previous: No. 5The Fighting Irish went above .500 after a one-sided 53-13 victory against North Central. The Panthers had no answer for Xavier Dangerfield, who finished the contest with 24 carries for 188 rushing yards and five touchdowns. TuaJohn Averitte and Adam Ayers added a touchdown each. After a two-game losing streak, Cathedral can extend its current winning streak to three games by defeating Fredrick Douglass on the 27th.
6. Lawrence North
Previous: No. 6The Wildcats are at 5-0 after blanking Indianapolis Arsenal Technical, 35-0. Damario Moore had a receiving and a punt return touchdown, while Izayveon Moore, Tanner Aspelet, and Davion Chandler each had a touchdown. However, after dominating their first five assignments, Lawrence North will face a gauntlet of top-ranked opponents in their next three games: 12th-ranked Ben Davis, fourth-ranked Warren Central, and third-ranked Center Grove.
7. Hamilton Southeastern
Previous: No. 7The Royals have lost their last two games by one possession. After a 37-35 thriller against Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern dropped the game versus Westfield in overtime. Their 14 points against the Shamrocks was their lowest-scoring output after five weeks. Despite those setbacks, the Royals remain in the top ten and could improve their ranking with a win against Zionsville on Sept. 27.
8. Fishers
Previous: No. 8If not for one-point losses to Pike and Brownsburg, the Tigers could have been 5-0 to start the 2024 Indiana high school football season. However, save for their season-opening victory against North Central, Fishers’ recent wins were close calls. After a three-point overtime win versus Noblesville, they defeated Hamilton Southeastern by two points. Therefore, predicting which Fishers team will show up against Avon on Sept. 27 is tough.
9. Bishop Chatard
Previous: No. 9The Trojans erased their 31-7 loss to Cathedral by winning over Columbus North, 21-14. In addition to their 4-1 record, Bishop Chatard’s defense is ranked eighth among Indiana high school football teams this season. After giving up 35 points to Brebeuf Jesuit in their season opener, they’ve only allowed eight points per game in their following three wins. Bishop Chatard can improve to 5-1 by defeating Guerin Catholic on the 27th.
10. New Palestine
Previous: No. 10Technically, the Dragons haven’t lost this season due to their four victories and a tie (versus Decatur Central). In their latest win, New Palestine torched Pendleton Heights with 56 points, thanks mainly to Josh Ranes’ 268 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, Gavin Neal joined the party with 108 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Dragons hope to sustain this elite ground attack when they clash with Greenfield-Central on Friday.
